Yukonblizzard's Shark and Ray Reef Lagoon

Tagging along, amazing build. I totally commend the effort that comes along with getting this build this far so fast, something I must admit I am pretty jealous of. Kudos.

Umm am I the only one who caught this:

"But then I stumbled upon a free source for 1.5 inch acrylic sheets in 5 by 3 foot sections."

What universe do you live in with free 1.5" acrylic and unicorns and Santa Clause? I feel like I'm going crazy here.

Sweet tank btw.

Haha, thanks Tron! Someone I know bought a bank that had a whole lot of this acrylic around, and they didn't want it so I took it off their hands;)

Thank you Sherm!

Waters all cleared up! Looks nice! I think one of the coolest parts of reefing is the equipment. I like how yours is visible yet tidy. I would love to have an awesome external skimmer and have it on display next to the tank...not to mention a diverse, display refugium.

A diy foam/rock wall would have been super nice in there!

Very exciting watching your build evolve!

Yeah I was getting a little worried about the water clarity; I am very impatient;)

I agree with you about having a cool/clean external protein skimmer along with a display refugium, that would look very cool. The Shedd Aquarium has something very similar to this at one of their exhibits.

I didn't even think about doing a rock wall, Good idea!

Theres a thread circulating in the general reef discussion forum of a "volcano tank" Hes got a reef tank with a mountain of live rock extending well above the surface. Hes got the rock plumbed so water runs down it and keeps it wet and theres snails and crabs crawling all over it.

I just looked at your pics again and pictured rock running up the back wall of the tank and running up onto the shelf behind the tank and a little ways up the back wall. Plumb a spray bar above it to keep it wet. Then youd have the ultimate lagoon, with crabs, snails and starfish crawling up onto the exposed rock.

Here I am dreaming about what Id do with your tank

Just looked at that thread; I actually really like it. And your idea is really awesome! Kind of like a tide pool with starfish and other little critters crawling on it.

Put a few mangroves in the refugium...

Great looking tank, like others I can't wait to see it finished. You have all sorts of stocking options, and I'm sure you'll enjoy playing with them.

Just a small comment, will the mangroves grow properly if only lit from the side? Are you planning a new lighting fixture for that area?

Thank you ShinyPenny, the light(Once I find the time;)) will be above the mangroves and not from the side.

LOVE your build. I will definitely continue to follow this one. Digging the Marley tune to accompany your video too.

Well, I made a mount for the mangrove lamp...
