I don't know what caused it unless it is a new addition to the tank in the last week or so. Thats when I used to loose them before starting to light acclimate them. To stop the melting take a syringe or eye dropper and suck up all of the mucus then move him. I would go with no light and low flow for a few days. If you think he is already in low light low and low flow I would move him anyway because he definitely does not like that spot. Unfortunately my experience is that once they get to a certain point of melting its too late. Keeping the mucus cleaned off definitely slows the process down. Good luck.
Melting usually means death in my experience. Is this a new addition? And can you please let us know if you did any water changes, bulb changes, new additives, filter media like carbon/phophate? Basically, any changes to your system in the past week would be noteworthy.
I'm so sick of yuma's melting for no reason, there has to be a common cause. What is your water parameters as well. My own suspicion is lighting.
