ZC's clownfish breeding thread

Zero, Where did you get your rotifer stock from? I am currently looking online line and seem to get lost as to what I am looking for. Are there small and large rots?
THX

still really enjoying this thread, thinking about trying all this one day
You should! It's a lot of work but very rewarding. :)

Hey there. I don't know if there are different size rots, but there are different strains (all freshwater except one brackish water, I believe). I ordered my rots from Reed Mariculture: https://www.reed-store.com/shop.cfm/Rotifer-Products/Rotifers-Live-and-Concentrate/RSK-1M/
The 1million count will be enough to get you started with one 5gal bucket easily, then after a couple of days without harvesting you can split it into two buckets and so on. I also ordered their RotiGrow Plus rotifer feed (instant algae). But you can find the proper rotifers on just about any marine aquaculture supplies website. HTH!

Ok cool thank you

very nice thread, i love seeing the whole process and the macro shots are awesome! i have always wanted some onyx clowns, hope you get them to selling size! ;)

Thanks so much. :)
I wish I had more pics of the little guys but the water is totally green right now... Need to do something about that, and get the growout plumbing sealed up so I can get that going. Couple of leaks still need to be fixed.

And the juvies are getting bigger all the time, the largest have to be over 1/2" already. :D

Over 3/4" and some are showing onyx coloration already! :D

Ton of eggs hatched Saturday night and I have around 500 healthy larvae in the rearing tank, already eating the otohime really well:

And got a replacement snowflake male to pair up with my b&w female:

Thanks. :)
I've got right around 200 percs left and they're well into meta phase, the survivor from the hatch before has his head stripe and some of the younger ones are starting with their head bands.

Growout setup is complete and home to 103 onyx juvies. :)
Another batch hatched last night and they look awesome!

Enough space on the top shelf to put two more 10gal tanks and I'll try to fix the leaky 4th 30gal tank.
I'll eventually plumb all the broodstock tanks together into that purple tub.

The juvies seem happy! :)

Rots sources

Rots sources

Reed Mariculture and Florida Aqua Farms are the two big sources, they have other cultures besides rots, also phyto and pods, and artemia eggs.

My clowns have shiny eyes for the last two days and its been 6 days since they were lay by the clownfish. should i pull the rock out now and put in the hatch tank?

Beautiful macro shots. Love the detail, thanks for sharing. :) bookmarked
Thanks! :D

I would say wait one more day. It usually takes 7 days and mine turn silver 1-2 days before they hatch. You might notice the parents doing triple the amount of fanning on the day/evening they are going to hatch. Good luck!

Most of the larvae from the last hatch have died. I was supposed to do a water change today to siphon out the dead, but was kept away for the entire day. Not expecting very many to survive this go around. :(

Zero, hey I am sorry if I haved missed this somewhere, but with your grow out tanks, what size are they? and are they all plumbed together? Just trying to get an idea of what ya'll got going on!
