ZC's clownfish breeding thread

I don't start feeding frozen food to the juvies until they're almost 2 months old and big enough to handle it.
When the larvae hatch, you need to feed them rotifers that have been fed a good phytoplankton. After a few days, I start feeding them otohime and wheen them off the rots. After they are big enough then you start introducing larger food.

You should provide them with a regular light schedule from day 0. They can't see the food without light. You'll also need to tint the water with algae so they can see the food easier, otherwise they'll starve.

There are medications you can use, but I can't think of the names offhand.

Im on my first day with the hatched clownfish and was wondering do you start doing waterchanges on day 1? and when do you switch them from rotifers to some other kind of food thanks.

Hey, I usually don't do water changes until day 3 unless there is a lot of die off bodies need to be removed. Day 3 is usually the day I start introducing otohime, but I continue feeding them rotifers for several weeks since I harvest them every day anyway. When the fish get large enough, starting introducing pulverized flake food, but always make sure to overlap your feeding while wheening them. :)

what should i order the otohime? or the live baby shrimp? thanks for all your help!
You're welcome. :)
I've never tried feeding bbs so I don't really have any experience to share. The otohime works really well though. It depends on how much money or time you want to spend. Otohime is more expensive, but hatching bbs takes more time. I've also heard from breeders that they have a higher survival rate with otohime so that is something to consider.

Do you not vacuum the tank until day three also? Unless there are dead frys that need to be removed?
Correct, unless there are a bunch of dead that need to be removed, I don't start doing water changes until day 3, after that it becomes 1gal wc every day until they hit meta phase. Then a water change once or twice a week along with either a sponge filter or LR helps keep the water clean.

OK, I'm back to following along !

Still no successful clutches, but I'm still trying. :headwally: Took a break for a few weeks.
I am determined to succeed with this next batch. I think my rot cultures are dense, feeding parents more, trying a different larva tank etc.

Zero, your grow out system looks great. Fish too. Wish me luck. Hatch is due Sunday night ( 9 days, like clockwork).

where do you order it? and how many times a day do you feed them rotifers ?
The otohime? I bought mine from Reed Mariculture.
And you need to keep the rotifer density steady in the larvae tank so that the fry never have to travel more than their own body length to find a rot. Also keep the larvae tank water tinted with algae. It makes it easier for them to find the rots by narrowing the visibility.
