Zebra Moray

I would be interested in hearing your experiences with this moray. Feeding, tankmates, behaviour, etc.

Considering a ZM and a Picasso trigger in a 90g that I will be setting up.

Mine is very peaceful. It mainly comes out for feeding but it shows its face off and on as well. I have to use a feeding stick to feed mine because my grouper always tries to snag its food. I feed it fresh scallops, squid and prawns. It does not go after my hermits at all.

You're welcome! No. I have a 200#s of LR for it though. It is never short of hiding places.

My Zebra is very mellow also mine hangs out in the pvc pipe most of the time unless its feeding time or when lights are out and verry little light on in the fish room. I just posted a bunch of pics in a thread i started called New pics. I feed my eel fresh shrimp because that is all i can get him to eat. His tank mates are Bursa trigger and 2 Blue/green chromis's. I also have 2 snails and a zebra crab in the tank. Do you plan on up gradeing to a bigger tank at all? The reason i ask is the zebra can get over 4' long and the 90 is only 4'.

No upgrade. This would be the only tank.

If you dont allready have the 90 going and if you really want a zebra see if you can get a 125 and the zebra would be allright in that size tank. Than you can have another fish or two with your picasso.

Forget waht i said about the 125 i just read your other thread about only haveing 48" to work with.

Thanks Harley...wish it werent true but the 90g is the largest I can go.

I think I am going to forget about the zebra moray and maybe lean towards a jeweled or other smaller (3ft max) moray.

The snowflake eels are pretty mellow like the zebra is. Jeweled is a good choice also, I seen some cool looking ones of them also.

i love zebras! my LFS in Hawaii got in a 12" zebra. The diver that works there has been diving for 35 years says he NEVER sees them that small. Hes only caught 2 in 35 yers smaller then 12".

The LFS has one about 8" long and 1/2 " wide. I'd never seen any close to that size. They had it labeled as a "Costa Rican" Zebra Moray. I thought they mostly came from Hawaii.

I know that they are also found in the sea of cortez, but I am not sure about Costa Rica

The barred moray....echidna polyzona.... resembles the zebra moray and stays at a more respectable size if your interested. Just a thought. They too are pretty reknown for being passive. But IMHO zebs are as passive as they get.... mine hangs out with his cleaner shrimp all day and submits to free dental work multiple times per day. Really quite comical to watch. Other than that he hangs out in his PVC home that is sunk underneath about 5" of Southdown and openings are covererd by LR cave work. I have pics on this site somewhere (thread was called "tell me what you think" or something like that)

As soon as my guy gets too big.... my parents are already greedily awaiting his arrival in their 300g.
