ZeeSparrow's 75G LPS tank build

So turbo must be one of those funny nick-names like calling a bald guy curly or a fat guy slim... :jester:

Looking forward to the hammer pics. I had one in my old tank that got pretty big.
I love hammers and frog spawns.

Ha! I've been looking at pictures online and I'm not sure if it's a turbo or something else, actually. The nassarius is a definite ID (no picture of him). Also don't know what kind the little ones are. Can anyone ID from these pictures?

(Apologies for his appearance. He got dusted by a little sand when I was blowing off the rocks. He's also sporting some ... algae? on his shell.)

Little snails - no idea what these are. They were on the glass last night for a bit.

Frogspawn, from the side. Can see the hammer and one of the candy canes from here!

Hammer has some red fuzz on one of the branches. Some of it came off last night during the dip (brushed right off) but apparently I didn't get it all. Might just see if it will brush off with a toothbrush.

Other candy cane. Going to be 3 heads soon!

And finally, updated FTS (please ignore the mag float):

Nice Zee. Those are going to look good when they grow.
Now I know who I'm going to get my frog and hammer frags from later. :)

Thanks guys!

Sure thing! :)

I watched this guy make his way up the glass last night. He was very close to the overflow so I kept an eye on him, in case I needed to head him off. But once he reached the top of the water, he turned around and headed back the way he came.

Lol, good luck keeping snails out of the overflow. From what I understand they will basically end up wherever they choose..

Looking great Zee. I'm getting psyched. Almost at the end of my cycling. Less than .25 on ammonia and nitrite. Should be ready to add next week.

So I stopped into Aquatic Dreams today.
I bought a PhosBan reactor setup. Super nice people there.
Can't wait to get my tank up and running. They have a couple beautiful clowns I want :)

Right on, Grizz!

Very cool. I actually bought my clowns from Barbie at Aquarium Solutions. She's been really helpful for me so it seemed fitting to get my first fish from her. I'm also going to go back for a Duncan head or three... She's also got a nice little plate coral I might have to bring home.

If only LFS's sold patience. If I could bottle that and sell it, I'd be very rich. :D

;)

Clowns are doing great in TTM. They've been moved twice, with the next move scheduled for tomorrow. I haven't seen anything wrong; they're active throughout the day and eating at every meal offered. :)

Friday, I received my 15 gallon CUC package from reefcleaners.org. There may be a few that didn't survive the trip but most of the snails are alive and well. The nerites are at the top of the tank as can be expected, but the rest seem to have acclimated and are actively cleaning the glass, overflow, rock and corals.

Yesterday morning, one of the snails crawled up the hammer coral and knocked it out of the rock it was wedged into. It was upside down with its head on the sand/rock. I picked up the two of them (snail was still on the side) and found a more secure location. I don't LIKE the new location as it is a little too close to the frogspawn (see below concern). I need to pick up some more JB waterweld to secure it anywhere else so it will stay where it is for now. It does appear to be more open than it has been since I got it though, which is great.

I also increased the max blue on my lights from 30 to 35. Whites are still max at 25.

Finally, I did a ~20 gallon W/C, using up the last of my Kent salt mixed with IO. Nitrates are still up a bit higher than I want so I'm planning another 20-25 gallon W/C soon. Chaeto is growing as well. Not fast, but it's growing.

I bumped one of the candy cane corals with my arm this morning and it almost immediately turned a bit dark and retracted. Two hours later, it's recovered. Whew! Lucky for me this one is very hardy (it's the same one that fell from the rock previously). I'll have to watch where I stick my arms a little better. :o

Now, one thing that I'm curious about are these white "spots" on both the euphyllia. Is this something that may have been there all along, just covered under algae? Snail eggs? Damage from the other euphyllia? As mentioned, the hammer is more open than it has been and the frogspawn is definitely open and eating well when fed. But what IS this and should I be concerned?

Hammer has lots of them:

Frogspawn just has a few:

Forgot to mention, I fixed the stand for my skimmer. The PVC legs weren't zip-tied very tightly so it was wobbly. Now they're tightened down and it's sturdy as a rock. I also added a 90* fitting to the output. No more trickling water!

Not sure what the white spots are...not familiar enough with them. Post a separate thread if you are concerned so more people with experience can help you.

Looks good. My ammonia is gone, nitrites tested out 0 as well. I have some chaeto in my fuge already and my nitrates were cut in half down to 10. I just does my ammonia back up to 1 to see how it goes in 24 hours. Hopefully I'm close enough to be done with the cycling.

Apparently they are Nerite snail eggs. Cool! I'm going to pick up some Bayer to have on hand (joining the coral RX I already use) but won't be using it on these today. Instead I think I'll secure them into the rock with the JB waterweld I picked up last night. Might finish securing all my rock to get rid of any wobbly spots.
