I am in the middle of remodeling my basement, and I decided to turn my fish room into a new 580 gallon reef tank.
My 225 is currently plumbed into my basement. Decided to go big and looked at placing a 8' long tank where my sump, protein skimmer, and three-part dosing currently occurs.
I almost ordered an 8' tank but after measuring the area again, I was 3" short of being able to put in an 8' tank. I would have to move a wall plus I want two external waveboxes on the right side, and that would extend the length another 5". So once the wall has to move, I thought why not go even bigger? My current sump sits in an area next to a bathroom, so I broke down the wall between the current "sump" room and bathroom, and the new 10' long tank will extend into the bathroom by a little less than three feet.
So I'm ordering a three sided starphire tank from A.G.E. 3/4" Starphire, 1 1/4" PVC bottom, stainless steel bracing along the top. External overflow and two waveboxes on right panel. 10' x 3' x 31". 580 Gallons.
Should have tank drawings soon. Will put two holes for a closed loop, and will run 4 Vortechs, and 2 external Tunze Waveboxes.
Will re-use a lot of the equipment on my current 225. Reeflo Orca 250, Four 400W Radiums in Lunenarc 3's driven by Galaxy Ballasts with supplemental VHO actinics.
I should have taken some pictures of the "before" but all I have is where I'm at today.
