Zen's Nuvo Fusion 40 Build

I have the same setup you do, was thinking if the skimmer would be better on the opposite side of the powerhead?!? any thoughts? I may just get junked up with more junk that way though.

about to set my Nuvo 40 up this weekend with the 9004 as well. You didn't have any issues with the chamber being blocked at all and causing issues with the skimmer? Im just kind of worried because its the only way to put a true "in sump" skimmer in the nano. Also what other media are you using?

Thanks!

There are absolutely no issues with the skimmer in the side chambers. Mine has been skimming like a champ for almost 3 years.

The only media I'm running is carbon in an Innovative Marine Minimax Reactor. I've run GFO in a hang on reactor in the past but I've found I don't have a need for it.

1. Put a mark on your display so you'll know exactly how much water you've drained for water changes.

2. An auto top off is a must for these tanks. The water level in the middle section of the sump drops with evaporation and makes a lot of noise as the water falls over the baffle.

3. Drop an MJ1200 pump or something similar in the bottom of the sump before you install the return pump. This helps because you can turn it on to stir the detritus that collects in the sump and pump it through the return back into the display. I put mine on a timer to run at night to feed corals. I also turn it on before I do a water change to get as much detritus out as possible.

4. Throw away the plastic racks that fit in the side chambers and buy the IM filter socks. They fit perfect and do a great job polishing the water. I run one all the time and once in a while I take out the skimmer and run both socks will stirring the detritus. You'll be amazed at how clean the water looks after a couple of days.

Any updates to this thread? FTS?
I've had a Nuvo 40 set up for 2 weeks now. Loving the tank. Searching for a skimmer, leaning towards the 9004. Did you notice if it helps with some of the surface build up?

This is how the tank looks as of tonight. You can't go wrong with the 9004 skimmer. It's been great.

It's been a while so I thought I'd post a current pic.

i know this is an old thread but do you have a current FTS , ive got a nuvo 40 that im getting ready to setup next weekend i hope and I love your tank.

FTS as of this morning. Glass is dirty. Running out of room. Need to build a bigger tank but this one practically runs itself.

Agree, very beautiful tank

How do you like the Gyre? which one?
XF230 and I'm really impressed with the Gyre. I think it's a massive upgrade from the mp20 it replaced. I've run dual mp40s in larger tank in the past and I'll definitely go with gyres if I ever build a larger tank again.

Dosing

Dosing

Hi! Love your tank! We have had the same tank for about 2 years now and finally decided to go for corals :-) I read all of your recommendations and just ordered a gyre pump from amazon. Have you committed to a dosing pump? I haven't found much info for these smaller tanks and read a lot about most pumps not being accurate for such small doses. Thoughts?

Thanks for the comments! The tank is growing faster than ever. I've always used BRS (bulk reef supply) dosers. I don't really dose alk and calcium anymore. All my calcium comes from kalk. I've had to replace my top off doser several times but it gets a lot more use. It may be due to the kalk I dose in my top off.
