Zeovit Reactor or other phosphate remover?

I have had reef tanks for about ten years now and don't really follow new products. I run my reef tank with just a small downdraft skimmer. Apparently alot of other people are using "Zeovit Reactors?" I am considering adding one of these or a Phosban. . . .

Honestly I tried a phosphate removing chemical years ago that killed all my green star polyps and a leather coral so I am a little hesitant about them . . . .

Does everyone use phosphate removing products now?

A zeo reactor and the zeovit method requires lots of efficent skimming and daily dosing, a phosban reactor is just a canister filled with rust AKA GFO or granular feric oxide.

I think it helps running a phosphate reactor. Helps keeps algae in check, helps color in SPS.

Zeo is a lot more complicated and requires more attention and investment from you.

I like the phosphate setup available from Bulk Reef Supply. I am running their "dual" reactor with GFO for phosphate in one and carbon in the other.

And correct me if I am wrong, but I believe that Zeo is meant more for ultra low nutrient systems, if you have phosphates, that wouldn't qualify.

Also, I would be surprised if using a phosphate remover was the direct cause of the issues you had in the past. However, if you use too much too soon, your alk can be lowered quickly, which might have been your issue.

if you do get a phosphte reactor, a little goes a long way in the beginning. I would start with half the reccomended dose.
