ZeoVit vs Nitrate?

I started 1 liter of ZeoVit on my 200GL 3 days ago.
I got around 5 ppm NO3 before using ZeoVit, when do I expect it to go down to undetectable?

Im not really sure how long it takes, but my guess is not too long. I would think it would be gone by your first Zeo change (1 month). You really should probably ask questions about Zeovit on the Zeovit forum though. That is where all the Zeo experts reside.

It took me 6 months to come from 20ppm to 2.5ppm, do the math.

Wow, that is long time!
:eek1:
I expected much faster.
:rolleye1:
What about PO4?

By the way, just tested my water.
The NO3 went down to 2.2 pm (from about 6 ppm 4 days ago.)

I was takin it slow, the more start2 you add daily the faster you can bring it down, it also depends on the residual nutrients, I just have hada lot I guess, strored nutirent pool is the zeo talk.
Excess dosage of start2 will cause slime brown stuff with bubble on the rocks. If you manage the right dosage you can bring it down faster. BTW, If your nitrates are coming down so quickly my guess is you really didn't need zeo, in the first place.

My phosphate was .5 and is almost undetectable, but I do feed the tank very heavily with frozen food.

But remember it is not just the nitrates that get eaten up.... watch your corals very closely there is still so much unknown about the zeo system, the main reason I was taking it very slow.....

Thanks for your advice.
That is why I do the experiment in my smaller and younger tank. (Setup for experimentation to begin with)

Also, depending on your Potassium level on the salt you use, you will probably have to get K-Balance pretty soon, when your montiporas start to loose their base coloration you will know it is time. I use about 1ml every day and 1ml/5gallon of new water during waterchange to keep it in line, My k test kit is on the way from europe, hopefully I can have a better control on my dosages after that.

The zeolite in the zeovit system take out amonia, so its the bacs that will take out no3 and then if zeo bacs obay the laws of nature only in an anerobic environment. Have you a dsb or much LR?

I notice Alexander is recomending a 3 on 3 off cycle for the reactor in tanks with measurable nutrients, and he is one who IMO can be trusted to be genuinely objective as opposed to 'born again':)

Just curious, how long was it for you until you started to see signs of low K+?? I have been running Zeovit for ~3 months or so and have not noticed any signs of loss of colors in my montis and I have several of them. I guess I am going to have to get myself a kit as well when captive oceans gets them in stock, which shouldnt be too long from now. This definitely concerns me.....

Kurt - if the salt analysis elsewhere on this forum is anything to go by, even with seachem reef salt, K ballance is worth dosing and titrating by apearance. I'v seen noticable improvements with this, B ballance and Zspur macro elements - I'm very pleased.

Cheers

About three months in to it, I started seeing one of my encrusting monti loosing tissue, superman monti got white and my green cap got white as well... I am using TM pro salt..... If you are using seachem you may not see it that quick or may never... since we really don't know How much or for that matter why zeolites deplete K, it is hard to say... That is one thing I hate about zeo, I can't really leave the tank running and be gone for a week... Always worried that I might comeback to a tank full of dead corals. Then why am I using it.... what can you say I am just crazy....

Well its a good thing that the K+ test kit will be avail soon here in the states. If you want you can order it directly from KZ but im sure it may be a bit more pricey.

You can also get potassium test kit from petsolutions. The ppm range of testing may be off but that can be easily overcome by adjusting your sample solution.
