Zeovit with bio pellets?

Is it possible to run a bio pellet reactor along with the zeovit supplements and achieve the same results?

IMO....probably not. I don't think bio-pellets strip the water to the same extent that zeo does.

I feel that the supps are benefited most by running their complete system with the zeolites in a pumping mechanism type of reactor. Certain bacteria collect on the stones and each time pumped(usually 2xper day), provide as a food source to many corals that reside within a reef tank. This is why you pump the stones and then dose c-source and bacteria for daily dosing. The pellets seem to mostly take on nitrates, based on my experience, leaving PO4 there to gradually rise, this said, I had better results with pellets running po4 reactor along side, if that make sense. When I was full out zeovit and on top of my game, that was hands down best system I have ever run, from a coloration and coral health standpoint...

I use a reactor with NP Biopellets and a second reactor with carbon, then dose some of the Zeovit products as a food source. (Coral Vitalizer, Pohls Extra, ZeoFood Amino Acid, Coral Snow)

It sounds like this is what you are trying to do. I've had good results with this method.

I don't run the PO4 reactor, but I do have macro algae in a refugium. There is just enough PO4 left in my water after using the Biopellets to keep the macro algae alive. Otherwise the PO4 is basically undetectable.

Thanks guys!

Yes I am trying to run the reactor with bio pellets and add supliments like (Coral Vitalizer, Pohls Extra, ZeoFood Amino Acid, Coral Snow) etc to get the same results as a full zeo system.

Lot of time I go out of town and I wont be able to pump the zeo reactor on a daily basis.

While using bio pellets, do you have to dose iodine and potassium as well?

I'd recommend you use the reactor rather than the biopellets. The whole zeovit system is designed to work together. If you cant pump the reactor every day its not ideal, but i wouldnt say its the deciding factor. That being said, you can run biopellets, you just might not get as consistent results. If you do run biopellets I wouldn't just use the food additives, I would use biomate, zeozym, coral snow, so that you can get as similar results as possible. Now that I think about it, if you use most additives other than the zeolite stones, it might work very well! I wish you the best of luck! :)

Biopellets are a solid carbon source. like zeostart that is a liquid carbon source. so you might be able to switch them out, and use the rest of the zeo line up. But every carbon source feeds different type of bacteria, like vodka, vinegar, sugar, and so on ... So I am not sure how well zeobak which is zeovit bacteria source would work with solid carbon like pellets. But its worth a try, I'm suspecting it would work like zeovit with no zeoliths.

I would start with pellets, and zeobak 2 times a week, biomate 2 times a week, sponge power with bak, and eventually start adding the coral color and growth enhancers like cv, extra and aa which work much better in systems with lower nutrition.

Good luck, I'd be very interested to know how it turns out.

there is no need for Iodine, at least not yet untill you reach Ultra low nutrition, in which case most of the times iodine is not needed [I was one of those who used to think iodine is what brings my blue SPS to life, but ever since I stopped, my blues are still blue. so I was wrong.]

K+ though, test it, and dose if needed. you dnt want to over dose this.

and of course, never use pottasium iodine to increase K+ concentration, you will kill corals due to iodine poisoning, if you tried to increase K+ with this.

HTH,

HTH,

Which potassium test kit are you using?

Does zeovit eventually kill off DSB bacteria population completely? Ive read that refugiums and DSB are not compatible in the long run but live rock contain a lot of the same bacteria and no mention that they become "dead rock" and totally dependant on zeolith

for K+, KZ test is hard to read, I would try it, but can also waut for the new salifert. its supposed to be good.

I also have to make a change to my previous reply ... after trying this myself, I see that using some, but not alot of start3 helps as well, as its designed specifically to feed all strains of bak ... its a mix.just a FYI .

eidels, DSB is not compatible with zeovit, as they would both be competing for the same bacteria .. it can be counter productive. also, DSB can collect alot of detritus, making it a po4 sink, about live rock, same bacteria that grow and colonize zeoliths, colonize LR and glass and reactors and GAC ... as well.

I was wondering the same question. I was going to ask on the ZEOVIT website but they are not as responsive as reefcentral...

bump...... any new results to report? i was considering running bp and using zeo products. have heard some good things about going this route.

You can use biopellets with zeo additives do research on the additives first and find out what it does they're mostly concentrated I would dose low amount first and see how the corals react if you achieve low nutrient then you can dose food , cv, AA for food supplements there are also additives for color enhancements, just heads up if you use zeospur its becareful with it..best results I had is with full zeovit but I was also getting great results with a fuge, start3, sp, and zeobak..
