I'm not a fan of sugar or vinegar by themselves, but it works for others. If you really cant get vodka, best bet would be to go with KZ's start2 of Polyp Lab's C source imo.

Interesting, we can no longer dose carbon. I've never experienced this...even 1 drop will cause slight cloudiness from a mini bloom. This occurs even with our mixture, pure vodka, sugar, or vinegar alone.

We will let the tanks stabilize for a month and see where it stands then.

that's interesting...I've started getting "miniblooms" lately as well. Any thoughts on the science behind it? Could it be the mythical "monoculture"? I'm dosing ZEObac along with straight sugar and getting small blooms nightly that usually clear up by lights on at noon. ( I dose at night right before lights out at midnight.) Only other dosing is coral accell for AA and LOTS of food. Gone from emptying the skimmer once a week to twice a day :eek1:

I have seen no blooms in my tank and am dosing 10 ml of v/s/v daily. Although last night I finally got fed up with all the turf algae on my live rock and removed all pieces and gave them each a vigorous scrub down in a bucket of ro/di water to remove any deitrus,algae and, other scum I was displeased with. Must say it was quite an improvement. Although I am sure there is still plenty more po4 that will leach out of the rock, I can only hope the v/s/v will do its job and elminate that quickly. Will try and throw up some new photos of the cleaned rock. My next project for the weekend is to give my sump a good cleaning removing all the scum in there and cleaning out all the pumps with hot water and vinegar so they preform like they should and unplumb my unplugged UV sterilizer and sell it for some cash.

90g BB tank, 90% of flow going through a DAS EX-2 skimming wet... Lack of skimming is definitely not the cause I am thinking my N&P are out of what with P elevated from the move and N lower from no longer dosing amino's.

I just started yesterday dosing coral snow in conjunction with aquavitro fuel+vibrance and will give it some time.

Quick question, I have no potassium test kit is there any good sign to know I have reached the appropriate levels? For those of you with Cyano, it seems like this not all too uncommon in the ULNS world. I was readying about Zeo's Coral Snow, and it seems it can be used as a remedy for the problem.

Glassbox, have you found out any more about the cloudiness?

Well here is something that has hapened that I am a little bummed about. Since I have been doing the v/s/v dosing and the K dosing I had my goby commit suicide decided he wanted to try and live outside the tank but it dod not work to well for him I must say. And this morning my scarlet shrimp was legs up on the sand bed totally immobile. Needless to say could I have OD on the K dosiing? Went througha whole bottle, was dosing 2-3 tablespoons in the morning and again at night. I have increased my feeding in the tank as well to make up for lost nutirents. All other livestock seems to be fine they eat, swim, seem happy, corals showing more polyp extension during the day. Any ideas on why this could be. I also removed my heater for cleaning and my temp went a little loweer than i like but I replaced that this morning before work. All my paremeteres are in line as well, been testing every 3-5 days.

Well its been about 3 weeks. Have plenty of oxygen in the tank I believe have ASm G2 with sedra 5000 running and a another berlin skimmer running as a reactor for my matrix

I have 85 net gallons and I just bumped my dose to 2ml after 8 weeks of trial and error.

BTW...my V/S/V is 5ml vodka, 1tspn sugar, 5ml vinegar, and 15ml RO/DI

yeah but the bacteria your feeding use up lots of oxygen and your over double recommended dose for just dosing 3 weeks on 90 gallons(according to your sig.) thats why its recommended to start slow and gradually increase to you starts seeing levels drop and hold. not everyone got the white bloom from overdosing in the original vodka thread. my tank is an ap24 and i dose 1 ml of vodka only. i kept increasing and never got a bloom but one day i noticed my fish gasping for air. i had a way over sized skimmer on my 16g tank (b4 tank move).

Okay i will cut back the V/S/V to 5ml and yes I add lugols every few days. Just a drop or two. But that could be one thing I usually do nto test for iodine since most kits are unreliable.

Becareful with the Lugols, I know in the Zeo forums, It was suggested to stop dosing Lugols. Not really sure why thought.

Husky, nothing yet. We're holding off for awhile and will see what happens...?

FWIW, we just started dosing Coral snow + some Aqua Vitro products and increase in coloration has been very noticeable in 3 days. Our A.nana's growth tips have definitely increased giving it more purple.

The only negative side effect so far has been Fuel causing excess algae dusting on the glass. Our dosing and inital thoughts [here.]

Thanks for the write up on Fuel, would you consider this something that could be used in the initial stages of reaching a ULNS?

Right now I am really between running full zeo, or VSV with Seachem Matrix and Stability. This seems to cover the "Basic 4" except for ZeoFood. To me it almost seems like a replacement for ZeoFood, it has the carbs for bacteria, AA's and other trace elements. Do you agree, or am I missing something?

Ok, so a little crunching of the numbers makes it seem like this is actually way more expensive then Zfood in the long run. I wonder if there would be any benefit to Fuel?

By way more expensive I mean % wise, not necessarily dollar wise.

AV Fuel - 350ml = about 15 doses for me (7.5 weeks) $7-8
ZFood - 50ml (1000 drops) = 660 does (300 weeks or Shelflife which ever is less) $13
