After setting my tank up many years ago ,I found that I had zoas quite nice colours that came in on the live rock ,I also have pallys not so nice colour that grow at an alarming rate, are these going to be detrimental to my sps, because every time I seem to disturb or try to kill them they have negative effects on my sps.Should I just leave them alone or is there a way to get rid many thanks .

Remove rock with them on it if possible and either trade it in for new LR or recycle it by letting it sit in the backyard for six months followed by a bleach bath and a good soaking for a day or two. If option #2, acquire some new LR or just wait. Six months is just an arbitrary number btw. I am sure 4 weeks would do the trick but better safe than sorry I say. As usual be careful adding or subtracting too much LR in one shot.

If you like them just leave them alone. I have zoas that have grown right up to the base of some of my sps olonys with no negative effect.

i have some palys that are doing the same. I have used kalk, used mechanical methods, they keep coming back and many times i make things worse because of kalk flying around the water or slime going everywhere. you might just have to tear the tank down. i know, not what you wanted to hear

I've used a pair of dikes to cut out unwanted coral that spread like weeds like gsp and Xenia. I try to cut into the rock that they sit on to try and get up underneath them. I've used epoxy putty & super glue, the same kind you use to mount frags, to cover and smoother. I'm haven't given up yet.
