zoa dip???

I'm sure this is asked a lot, but there seems to be so many different formulas people use for zoa dipping and I was just wondering what the best one would be to use before I add any? And can/should I use it for other corals besides zoas? I used to use lugols, but there seems to be some different things out there now so I just wanted to go the safest route and see what most people these days use.

i have used the brightwell coral dip, and also just a good old lugols dip, and both have worked well for me...i find for pests the lugols works best, and for tissue damage, such as from fragging, the coral dip works better

okay thanks, what about "revive" my LFS sells that. I have some lugol's too, what is the best method for a lugol's dip?

Lugols is an iodine based solution and is good for freshly fragged zoas to help them heal. It might knock off some pests, but is not considered a solid way to kill hitchhikers

Revive, CoralRX, and all the rest: They exist for killing pests. None of them is %100 effective and probably will not kill eggs but they are worth it.

Fresh water dip: Brought up to temperature and PH (both very important) will knock off some unwanted hitchhikers as well

Furan II: For bacterial, fungal and zoa pox. Very effective just be very careful with it, it is some nasty stuff.

Flat worm exit: Will kill zoa eating nudis, but not the eggs. Good thing to have around if you get some of them.

I typically use Coral Rx followed by a bath in Salifert flatworm exit. If you happen to have any nudis come in, the FWE melts them to mush in seconds. Use at 4x strength for nudi prevention. The Coral Rx will get most other bugs. Don't forget to either shake the coral or stir the water to dislodge any hitchhikers. Also, give a good inspection of the colony for nudi eggs - a little white spiral or near circle about 1/4" diameter. Those won't be killed by the dips but can be scraped off with the backside of a blade. Or you can just remove the polyp that the eggs are on. If you do find eggs, make sure to QT the piece for a while to inspect for hatchlings.
