Zoa dipping Question

I am looking for something to dip my new zoas & polys that I buy before I put them in my tank. I bought a frag from someone on line ( That someone, isn't in this forum, meaning its not you guygetnby, lol, your stuff is top of the line) anyway it was loaded with several kinds of nasties. I went to my LFS today and they had one product for dipping corals. Kents Marine Tech D Expert Series, I didn't buy it, didn't want to waste my money if its not any good, it was $20.00. I saw the article by Mucho on dipping corals, I really don't want to make 5 gallons to dip a 6 polyp frag. Any advice for me? Oh, the frag I got that had all the nasties on it, what I did was ( no laughing, its all I had ) I dipped the frag in a mixture of tank water and hydrogen peroxide, put it in my QT tank and did that for the next two days and then left the frag in the QT tank for two weeks and I didn't see anything on it, so I put it in my big tank. Anyhow, any thoughts to help me out??

I've been strictly using this. Works on pretty much a lot of nasties...

http://revivecoralcleaner.com/

I got it for $7 a large bottle.

ReVive can be used to treat Acropora Eating Flatworms, Little Red Bugs, Montipora and Zoanthid Eating Nudibranchs, Planaria Flatworms, Sundial Snails and many other parasitic pests. Please note that ReVive will not kill the eggs of many of these species and multiple treatments may be required. For best use, quarantined your corals and examine them daily for signs of infestation. Repeat treatment as necessary.

I agree Revive has been a good cleaner for me as well.

I use CoralRX (similar to Revive) as believe Furan-2 is a little harsh on corals espically when already in a delicate state.

i also use revive on all my stuff aswell. it works very well for me. if you cant get the stuff local i can see about picking you up a bottle and sending it with your next package to help save you some money. just let me know.

Bringing this post back up.

I was curious to know.... what if I only dipped my new zoas with the 1 part hydrogen peroxide 3% and 9 parts saltwater mix, and not Revive, CoralRx, or any other reef dipping product. Are there studies that this will be better or worse compared to these retail products.

has anyone had success with lugos solution?

I used lugol solution only when fragging them. If the Zoa come from the lfs then I don't normally dip lugol after acclimating but dipping them in RO water for 4 minutes. I could see alot of stuff running around after 2 minutes.

Carefull w/ the freshwater dips. Many types of polyps, including PE's and palys can/will melt from a freshwater dip.

Most smaller polyp zoas seem to handle it better than most.

I have been using this exact same fresh water dip for many many years now and have even increased my lugols to 6 or 7 drops and have never had any issues at all. P. Grandis are the only polyps I know of which can not tolerate a fresh water dip. The testimonials are many. Those who have had issues did not perform the dip correctly. Just my 2 cents.

I followed the directions I found on RC with the freshwater dip with mixed results. One of the three frags I dipped melted away.... Could just be my dump luck.

I have heard Revive has been highly recommended.

I'm currently using Revive and happy. I don't dip zoas/palys that long though. I've used CoralRX and only switched because it became harder for me to find locally.

I make a solution of coral RX or Revive, some lugols, and most recently the Bayer Advanced Total Insect Killer (see Whisperer's Thread).

I always keep a 1/2 gallon of this stuff mixed up in a container and I dip everything I get into it - zoos, SPS, LPS, etc.

Then they go into QT for 30 - 60 days

I just started doing thjis in the past 4 - 6 weeks. I learned the hardway this winter and lost over 1/2 my 180 gal tank packed with sps/chalice/acans
