Zoa Fragging Experiment !!!

Sorry gang,,, my little digital camera isn't up to the task. Picture so poor, can't even tell colors or count polyps.

Here is a question..If you have a zoa colony that is "stringing" along, could you make several cuts along the string without removing the zoas to induce further splitting?

If a zoa colony is "stringing along", meaning reproducing with a line of new polyps, that colony should be left alone because it's doing good. Normally cuts won't induce further splitting, but have greater chances for infections and many times will probably make the colony weak.
I normally recommend frags of 8 to 10 polyps+, if there is a reason to frag.

Grandis.

You have to be careful when you frag to put back in a low flow area or you will get some that blow off the plugs. Or turn down the power head ( if you have like a mp10) I have been trying different types of glue and haven't found one yet that works perfect .

Here's an update to my experiment. I would call it a total success !!! I now have the zoos growing in 6 locations. The initial mounts are now very nice colonies. I'd say one is about 2"x 4" and the other is about 3 to 3.5" in dia. I 'd say that each of these have somewhere in the vicinity of 70-80 polyps. and they are still growing !!! Plus I have them strun out in different spots all over the tank.

excellent, I have also heard using Revive instead of Lugols/RODI works well for new frags as well as it is a tiny bit less stressfull, 1 cap ful per quart of water and let them dip for 5-15min(i usually do 5-10). It even says on the bottle it helps with newly fragged corals....but then again that is marketing.

Glad you had good results.

I dipped these with Lugols. I dipped quite a few at that time. I also lost several of them. I think that the Lugols may be a little harsh.
