Zoanthid/Pally Issues...

I dont know whats wrong with my tank, but certain zoas are just really unhappy and im watching them change in size, from a nice large polyp with long tenticles to a small 2 mm diameter polyp with no tenticles and usually are closed. I dont see anything bothering them, some rocks had anthelia on them, but i've rip those off and they are still persisting to be stubborn

All of my pallys are browning out severly and i really dont know why, my nitrates are much lower then what they used to be and they are down to about 20ppm. All of my SPS's LPS's Acans Softies are doing great and not browning (my SpS's that were blue (or a certain shade of blue) have taken green characteristics, but besides that, everything looks awesome. Here are a few pics by what i mean.

There are a few other colonies like these, But there are also a bunch that are in prestine condition. This one for example.

My plays did the same thing. I moved em up and into better flow. Not in the flow but close to it and they seemed to like that better.
The Zoa's I dunno. I only have two little rocks of brown Zoas and they seem happy whereever they end up. What kinda light they under?

I run 3 175 watt MH's (20k XMs, but their spectrum is more of a 14/15k from the research that me and John Reitner did) As well as 4 110watt Actinic Blue VHo's (48 inchers)

Well if nothing seems to be bothering them directly I would try repositioning them if possible. Might be a chemical reaction from one of the other corals nearby.My torch and my colt have to be placed on opposite ends of the tank or they fight. I'm trying to remember if my Zoas have ever given my any problems and what I did to correct it.

Hrrm...i will try that. No, i never make any coral's position permanent in my tank, due to that reason. But thanks for the suggestion, it hink i will try that.

wow they look very unhappy

its almost the same with my 3 zoos and gsp i had direct low on them adn only a few came out after i got them last week i redirected the flow and 2x's as many came out today in he mater of 10 minutes or so
so possibly a flow/lighting issue

theres no flow where they are...i moved them more into a direct sun light and more in the middle of the tank, imgoing to sleep, hopfully ill have better luck tomorrow.

How long has this been going on? Some like more light some don't and I just reposition mine accordingly. Most can handle good light and most of mine are doing great mid way in my tank under a 250 10k MH with two actinics. I have one group that likes it low and is growing like crazy but most are mid. Just to let you know when I move mine it generally takes about a week or so to really know if they like the new position. Where as some of my other corals - within a day I know but most it's a "Keep an eye on them" for at least a week. Make sure you don't see any browning of the polyps or for that matter any Discoloration.

yeah, they've slowly deteriated, so i will try the repositioning

take them out and dip them in some Iodine. John has some awesome stuff called Tropical Marin Pro Coral Cure. It worked wonders with my zoas.

You may also want to inspect closely for zoanthis nudibranchs also. The little buggers are hard to find.

Ok i will try both ideas. Thanks Northtampatang, i still have those watermelon zoas you gave me, but they are taking some casualties due tothe same issue.

ok well after looking at zoaid.com and looking at the preditors the only ones i know i've seen are the Astrea stars...i also have about a million and a half of tiny little snails. they definetly arn't sundials, but i wil have to look closer to make sure they're not the vermetid snails.
