zoanthid shooting strings?

i had this posted in the general forum and only got 1 reply that didnt really answer my ?s i am new to corals and bought a zoanthid (green) sun. after floating the bag for 20 mins or so i placed it into my tank (30 gal). almost immediately after placing it into my tank i noticed strings (dark red,green or brown in color ,youll have to pardon me im color blind) floating throughout the tank, i mean hundreds of them. they were all about 1 - 1 1/2" in length and very slender. they seemed to be everywhere, like a thousand of them all at once. my skimmer cleaned them up in about an hour. the same thing ocurred on tues. when i did a 25% water change. am i doing something wrong or is this a normal thing? the polyps have not opened since placing it into my tank. will my zoanthid eventually open and survive or is he a goner? thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

Did you dip it before you put it in your tank?
If not, Dip it in a iodine solution.

i didnt dip it. is the iodine solution available at most lfs's? anything else i should know before dipping?

Most LFS that do saltwater will hace Coral dip solutions. The instructions are normally printed on the box and easy to follow.

So much solution per so much water. Soak for xx min.
After you dip you should visually inspect. On Zoas you want to look for red bugs and other hitchhikers.

Dip all corals you will be suprised what you see in the water afterwards.

The Iodine in the dip will help the Zoes purk up. They should ether start opening in a few days of they will shrivel up till there is nothing there.

guy at the lfs called it brown jelly, i dipped them this afternoon, so far have seen no improvement, your right lily these folks know zoas

I also think that was zoa poop. If it was brown jelly you could tell before put in the tank because it´s external. If they released from the mouth it´s poop. They are fine now, so...

Proper acclimation to the light to prevent light shock to new incoming corals, good indirect flow and let them be.
