zoanthid type

is there a variation of zoanthid that grows in a mat. I bought a frag that looked very interesting. small rock covered in a purplish "skin" similar to what a green star polyp produces but has what looks like Zoa buds, green with dark center.

someone correct me if i'm wrong but as far as i know the mat is a result of growing a colony of zoas/palys on a bare bottom as opposed to letting your colony encrust on live rock.
