zoanthids and coraline

so a guy in my local club told me that zoanthids have a hard time growing on rock the is encrusted in coraline. which could explain some recession and lack of growth in a few of my colonies. can anyone back this up? if its true is there any way to get rid of the coraline without harming the zoas? i know fresh water always kills the coraline on my Koralia. any input is always greatly appreciated

This might be a good ? for the reef discussion forum.

Although my better judgement says that they would have no problem growing over coraline encrusted rock.

The same thing happened on me. The growth rate seem to be declined since the rock is covered with coraline.

Coraline in my tank also climb up the base of my ko's nightmare.

Does anyone has the same thing happen?

I have no problem with my zoas growing on rocks with green coraline algae, maybe with pink.... but I've only been around for a year and I got green coraline before pink. Anyway, no problems to report but look forward to learning others experiences.

I too have seen that my zoas grow around the coraline (purple).

maybe this is a cure, if you get stung by a Zoa put some Coraline on your finger or wherever and it should be a good antibiotic.....JK

I have purple coraline and have not noticed a lack of growth on it. I put rubberbands around my and the rock until they stick usually a few weeks.

im thinking about dipping a certain rock with zoas and coraline in fresh water for a bit and seeing what it does to both the zoas and the coraline.
