Zoanthids and Shade

Can these things be placed in shade where they would get very little light?

I have an over hang in my tank and wanted to put something underneath that wouldn't die from lack of light.

Some zoas need more light than others, so if you have a specific zoa in mind, then people here can help.
What about acans?

I've heard pink zippers become more speckled and pink in the shade than compared to in bright light so if you can get ahold of some...

My watermellons are partially shaded. They are living, but not thriving and the color is not as intense. A fraged part of the colony is in full light and colors are a lot better.

if you want to consider acans i was told that they require low lighting and someone told me that if you leave them in the dark or shade for a few days their colors get more intense

Unless you like the drab brown palys and zoas, nice zoas need light, especially the ones you mentioned... Try a dendro type coral, or something else NPS...

I figured that their color would suffer.

As for the NPS, I'm not sure that I have the time to be feeding them a few times each day. :sad2:

I think I'll stick with rock in that area for now. :p

Bright color for shade: Cyphastrae! Check out Meteor Shower. Gorgeous and loves shade.

That was going to be my suggestion as well. There are green variants and other colors in addition to the common meteor shower type. I have MS Cyphestrea and love it.

Fruit Loops and a lot of the so called "deep water" zoas will thrive in shade. My colony of Fruit Loops thrives in the overhang of a ledge. They have not colonized the area of the rock that is in the light. The frags melt if they are not shaded as well. You can definitely find zoas that like shade.

Large polyp NPS like suns & dendros do not need to be fed a few times a day. Two to three times per week is plenty. It's pretty easy with a turkey baster & some mysis & brine...takes only minutes. Perfect for a shady spot if you can commit to the feeding.

Depends on the light you've got and the amount of light the polyps will get in that particular spot.
Common sense.
Some species will do better than others in shaded/protected areas.

Grandis.
