So i was curious about how zoanthids spread and reproduce, do they lay out a mat and more polyps pop up or do they split, i have had some for months now and they havent grown more or anything

I have 3 colonies of micro zoanthids and they split, I have noticed 3-4 new ones over the last 2 months, Mine are very picky when it comes to flow and light. My bam bams like lower light and good flow where my watermelons produce a brown ring at the same level in the tank with no reproduction, However I moved the watermelons up 6 inches over time and they are producing with good color under a lower flow

The mat grows out, and polyps spring up from the mat.

The tentacles and stalks can be quite variable in length depending on the species as well. In some zoas, the polyps are solitary, but most you're apt to come across in the trade are colonial, with the polyps emerging either from an encrusting mat of tissue, called a coenenchyme, or a runner of tissue, called a stolon.
