Zoas going down hill fast - Fungas? Or what?

I lost

I lost

I just went through a battle with the dreaded zoa fungus and lost everything in my 12 gallon nano. To be more specific I still have some closed polyps but they havent been open in weeks. I tried Furan-2 and Seachem Reef Iodine. I may try drying out the remaining polyps I have. Hope you have better luck than I did.

exactally like low tide.

gotta figure in the wild zoas can be exposed to direct sunlight for a couple hours.

thing with my buddy's polyps is after the iodine dip, that shiz was still all over the polyps.

the sunlight managed to dry that crap to a crisp, to the point that it just flaked off.

now, seein that white funk on your LPS is very scary. i would seriously consider a 100% wc (depending on your tank size)

id make a serious dip, and dip everything.

go to the chemistry forum too, see if you can attribute any of your problems to what those chemist dudes can come up with.

there is something bad in yer tank, maybe in the LR, deep in the sand bed, or somewhere else.

gotta figure what it is and how to get the hell rid of it...

good luck, you are in the right place for answers, ill tell ya whut...

I had the same dead skin problem myself. The first time I over dipped and lost the zoos. The second time I moved the zoos to a second tank and they opened right up after two or three days. Something in my main tank was irritating them. I have no idea what. I put some frags of the same zoos in my frag tank that's connected to my main tank and they're fine. Zoos can be weird. So, I would do one dip, scrape together a few bucks for a 10g tank, fill it with fresh saltwater, throw in an airstone and heater if you have'em and leave it near a window. That will rule out environment, chemistry and tank mates. That leaves predators and true disease.

Damn. Sorry to hear that man. The worst part is you don't know if it was the zoos or your tank. The only way to find out is to try another frag. Just dip'em before putting them in your tank (even if it's just freshwater) and have a plan B ready.

Yeah, Im guessing that the zoas got stressed out from going to VHO mid tank, to 500w of MH 15" from source of light. Its wierd though, they started out fine for the first 4 or 5 days. Then the middle started going. I only have 5 SPS colonies/frags and one mushroom rock and a gorgonia. All those are doing fine.

I recently got some zoos in and had similar problem. There would be a small patch of zoos covered in whites film . I sucked the film up with a turkey baster and noticed the zos coming apart . layers shedding or the bases would get really thin and they would blow off.
The first time this happend I kept sucking some off with baster and tweezers plucking deadly looking polyps . I finally left it alone and noticed a week later it looked great.

Those are now doing great and I just got some more in and I noticed this as soon as i put them in. So it was not my tank. anyway I plucked and plucked the dying patched off day after day. once again I left it alone and they started looking much better. I am starting to notice a few polyp here and there getting mushy and flopping off but much better.
QUESTION: How big are monti eating nudibranches? Can you clearly make them out by the eye? Ive never seen them in person . Thanks
