zoas havent opened for a week

i have a small patch of 30 or so neon green zoas that have been closed for 5 or 6 days. does this randomly happen once in a while?

i didnt find any kind of nudibranch, there was a sponge growing within the patch but i removed it with some tweezers

When we first bought our 75 gal, the zoas that were in it did not open for two weeks. Every once in a while when they are stressed by our GBTA, they close for a week or so. I would guess that they were angry at the sponge and they will open soon.

I had a PPE frag get attacked by an acan and it closed up for over a month, shrivled up and grew algea over it, 2 weeks ago I pulled it out wiped off all the algea, piled superglue gel all over it except the mouth and WALA... its now fully open and starting to spread, as soon as I see a new polyp starting, it will be going to its new owner.

Moral of my story... Zoa's are INCREDABLY resiliant, you need to figure out why those polyps are closed. Take a flash light to them at night and stare at them for a min or 2, give the colony a fresh water dip or a saltwater one with a little H2O2 in it to give them a boost.

it happens every coral will open and close up for a while due to several variations. my green star polyps every couple of weeks close up for 3-7 days, but i believe this is foe gwoth reasons. every time they open back up there is tons more growth!

That happened to me, I was told to use a little iodide and they popped back open.

I think zoas do better being on the cool side instead on the warm side during shipping, there metabolism slows down a bit, they reguire less O2 and give off less toxics. I think wrappings the zoas with a soaked towelette and placed in a breathable bag for air exchange works much better. As long as the zoas stay wet with SW they will be ok. Breathable bag system helps kept the zoas cooler too, in hot weather. I have received zoas that have gone down in the low 70's temp and they come with no issue.
