So here is what my new colony of zoas looked like yesterday after 45 mins after I put them in the tank.

And here is what they look like now

nothing has changed in the tank at all.

also, theyve been like this all day (so a crab diddnt disturb them or anything)

Should I move them or leave them be for a few days? Is this a normal thing for zoas to do?

thanks guys

no dip and water parameters are fine

its just weird how they opened right up the first day, but half the colony diddnt open the next day.

I also have a few other zoas/palys and they all look fine

They could be just adjusting. I would place them on the bottom of the tank, leave them alone and let them acclimate for a couple of weeks. Then move them up.

Is there decent waterflow in that area...try moving them to an area with greater water flow see if that helps... if not maybe thy're just stressed and need to acclimate

Make sure you look for nudibranchs since you didn't dip them. I had the same issue and I discovered a nudibranch eating away. they tend to blend in with the zoanthids too, mine was red like the skirts.

I am going to agree with this statement as well. That looks like a really nice wild caught colony which means the chances of having pests is higher. Keep a close eye out for pests or dry and dip them. Hopefully it is just an acclimation issue and they will open right back up for you.

I agree with this and I would not move them for a while let them adjust. Also what lighting are they under and what lighting were they in when you got them? What temp is your tank from day-night make sure it doesnt swing too much.

updates with pics........

looks like the zoas are doing just fine....just needed a little time to adjust

I also was able to frag two decent size mini colonies and all is well
