zoas not taking to rock

R_Hudson

Just having fun
I purchased a small frag of eagle eye zoas from the lfs a little over a month ago. There were 6 polyps on this frag. I placed them where i wanted them to grow on my tonga branch and nothing has happened. still the same 6 with no signs of growth. any ideas?

they might also just setttling in.. once the settling period is done, watch 'em take off.. :)

good luck.. pics would be good also..

The wild colonies take a while to establish...they start out slow then one day just explode. They might sit for 6 - 8 months without doing much then the next month cover a whole rock.

If they were all ready tank bred then it may only take a couple months or weeks.

This short delay also seems to happen to tank bred frags but not so much to the colony that the frag was taken from.

I'm starting to think that cutting back large tank bred colonies makes them grow faster.

After sitting and waiting a year or so for something to move...the speed that they explode can be overwhelming.

Make sure and collect a lot of small chunks of live rock along the way...you will need them someday unless you use frag plugs.
