Zoas Problem

Hello,

I have 7-8 zoas colonies in my tank and one of them looks bad. It started several days ago. Some of the polyps closed and never opened and eventually disolved. Some of the polyps look like burnt and flatened

I don't see any white dots and other colonies look fine.

I fount one snail (very small) that has zebra-like pattern of the shell on other zoas today - the only strange thing I can come up with.

Any advise is appreciated.

Yup thats a zoo eating snail, just take it out and see if you can find any more. They aren't a big deal and easy to rid off.

Sounds like a sundial snail. And if you have one pest, you may have others imo. I'd do a FW Lugol's iodine dip on all the zoas; also any leathers in the tank.

:D

The pest is doing that to your zoas I bet, and the dip will kill the pests, so if the pests are the problem no more would be eaten at least.

Also, imo, the iodine helps the zoas get better after being traumatized :( It's what I do to mine when I think I am losing them.

If you do nothing thought, I would sorta expect to lose them if they were mine. :( It's always worth a shot, imo.

Much love out to your babies

You are welcome, just be sure when you do the dip to check between the polyps with a blunt pair of tweezers for snails as Mr. Ugly is completely correct. Watch for other things falling off after the 5 min soak in the dip that look like little furry flat worms (nudis).

Hope it works for you
