zoas questions

do zoas sometimes close I for a few days without opening? I have two sets in my tank that have been closed for two days now. Sometimes my leathes do this so I was wondering if I need to check for something or is this normal? thanks

I have only had Zoas for about 4 months so take this with a grain of salt. My 3 colonies of Zoas close at night and open when the lights come on, without fail. Never been a single day where they did not open.

you can dip them in reef disinfectant (sold at Kermits) or you can try Formalin a freshwater disease preventative as a dip. Zoa sometimes close for a few days because they want too also I wouldn't be alarmed very resiliant animal.

I dip mine periodically in Lugol's Solution. Look for these directions on RC with a search for Zoa Dip. I always dip all new zoas. Also, if you have lots of pods in your tank, they will crawl on the zoas and make them close. I had to get a 6 line wrasse for my frag tank to eat the pods. Closely examine them for nudis. Look up a pic on reefcentral so you will know what you are looking for and if you find them (may see them crawling on your glass too) follow the directions for the Lugol's dip. Good luck.
