Zoo fragging question

If I am fragging zoo's and I leave one single head on a rock will it reproduce? I am getting ready for the frag swap...I found 4 frags I can bring woohoo! I was trying to take a colony of zoo's off of a rock and I missed one, I left him there hoping that it will grow into a colony again. Does anyone know if it needs a second one to reproduce or if they can do it solo?

One will reproduce no problem.

He can grow solo. I set up a frag of 4 single zoos glued in 4 different spots on a rock and it is now practiacally covered in zoos.

I appoligize for hijacking, but thought this would be a good place to ask:

What is the typical reproduction/growth rate for Zoos? If I start with a frag of 4 polyps, what could I expect for growth? Is it linear, logarithmic or exponential?

I would have to say it depends on the zoo. I have some zoos that grow like mad while others take their sweet time. I am not sure what the average rate would be.

Zoanthids grow a different rates.

Yup yup, the zoanthids grow at various rates, and then still varied on top of that by lighting, water conditions, etc....

Not too mention from one tank tot he next the colorations may change, as well as size.

Just a side note, when fragging zoos use gloves. They may release a very potent Palytoxin. Wash hands and clean up any water or slime that results. Anthony Calfo mentioned how easily it is to be poisoned when fragging zoos. He just wiped his face with a towel that was used during the fragging.

WOW, I knew they had some toxins but I had no idea it was like that. I will look into getting some gloves too. Right now I just wash my hands and such when im done. Thanks for the heads up and the links guys.

Glasses are a good idea too. Those buggers can squirt. Gloves are a good idea for any fragging, many of these corals are toxic and it protects them from our skin nasties as well.
