zoo tank updates

I will be bringing in a couple of bubble tip anenomes tomorrow (Sunday) am that were kindly donated by a local (non RC) reefer. I will place one at each end of the tank that will hopefully host the ocellaris and bicinctus clowns. They came attached to one rock but I was able to split the rock but then overnight they each migrated to new rocks.

I have not had a chance to work on any descriptions. The zoo indicated they had a template we could use. drbronx, can you have the zoo e-mail us the templates.

I was already there Vince. I only put in one anenome since the other again decide to move during the night and I have to "coax" it onto a different rock.

The zoo called today. They stated that one of the power heads quit working and that the anenome wandered out of view. I will stop by the zoo some time this weekend to see what is up with the powerhead. They unplugged it until we can look at it. regarding the anenome, I still have one in my holding tank. For some reason, these bubble tips appear to be averse to light. Every time I orient the rock its on in direct light ( only NO and Compact Flourescent) it wanders into a lower light vacinity. The strange thing is it was raised in a halide lit tank. I have never been very knowledgeable about anenomes so I welcome any suggestions. If any one would like to meet at the zoo this weekend to troubleshoot the power head, paint the overhead door etc. post when is good to meet. Other than Saturday afternoon my schedule is fairly open. I was thinking Sunday morning.

Also I wanted to thank Jackson PT who donated a bunch more green hairy mushrooms, a small sarcophyton and some xenia to the zoo tank. This is especially notable since he produced this out of his little nano system.

I hope to make it this weekend. I'm just going to be tackling projects at home, so just post what time is agreeable for everyone and I should be there. By powerhead, do you mean Vortec?

I got out of trying to keep anemones a while back, but once upon a time I thought I was reasonably well versed in them... at least as well as anyone in the hobby is, for whatever that's worth.

Bubble tips do like the light, though they don't generally need halides. Most frequently, they like that have their foot burried in the rockwork out of light, so it can retract into relative darkness if need be. Perhaps this is why yours keeps moving. Once it finds a spot it is happy, it will generally extend out into the light and be reasonably happy. They are wanderers though, so let him move about some - just watch he doesn't destroy any coral colonies in the process.

Thanx Jackson. That is very helpful info. Hopefullyt it doesn't take out any corals until it finds its final perch. For the next anenomke (still in the holding tank) I'll have a betyter idea of where to position it.

I'm willing to go in Thursday... hopefully finish up the painting and make the tank look nice for this weekend's events

B Samuelson: When I was at the zoo this past Sunday, it appeared that progress was being made but then I heard that something else in the otter tank may be leaking as well. Regardless, the Brew at the Zoo only takes place at the pavilions near the front entrance so people wouldn't have access to the display. That's my understanding anyway.

Piazzon: I could be at the zoo at about 5:15, but i will have my daughter in tow so my time may be limited.

Myself, Paul and Adam met at the zoo today. We painted the overhead door and I added some sps corals: green acro. millepora, acro desalwii, blue tenuis, and some more pink birdnest. Everything looks great, maturing nicely, and water chemistry is right on the money. Nitrates have fallen to zero so the remote deep sand bed appears to be doing its job due to Nate's elegantly simple design. They are making progress on the otter tank but each time they correct one leak problem, a new one is identified. Nonetheless they are getting closer to a solution.

I will be asking Mike Janis if he wants to pursue the sea horse tank given my proposed budget of $1000 - $1200. I will also inquire about templates for display description plaques.

Man i have been so busy lately. I feel i'm completely out of touch. I'm starting to get some free time now. What else needs to be done? I would like to take some video that we could post here or put on our website.

I'll be at the zoo tomorrow (Sunday) at about 11am to do a water change before Star Wars at the Zoo which starts at noon. I believe Adam will be there as well.
