zoo tank updates

I placed Razz's Crocea, Blugobi's hydnophora, and JacksonPt's yellow skirt zoas into the display.

All the softies and LPS corals and fish look terrific and rapidly growing. The sps corals however are mostly gone. Calcium, alk, ph and Nitrates all test fine. I have been performing monthly 30 Gallon water changes. While I haven't tested phosphates I'm starting to suspect the lighting may be the culprit. Can any of you t-5 folks make some comments/recommendations on what bulb combos best suit SPS. I learned last night that Greg Greguire lost his sps after switching from halides. Anybody know what his bulb combination was. I placed an orange cap donated by Razz lower in the rockwork. I'll see how that responds.
 
I have a Nova Extreme T-5 with two 10,000 k bulbs and 2 actinic 460nm bulbs at 54 watts each. SPS are doing fine. Encrusting like crazy and good growth. Colors are also good i even have some on the bottom. This is the standard bulbs that came with the light.

Griessman/ATI - 10K
Sunpac - Blue Plus
When is the next meeting at the zoo. I can frag some of my SPS to see if they work better as they are coming from T5 lighting.
 
Funny you should ask Paul. This Saturday (10/27) at 2:00 we were asked to present the tank to whomever stops by. We were designated to do that weeks "zookeeper" talk. So anybody who wants to come by is welcome. Paul, if you want , we could meet a bit earlier to glue in a few frags. thanks for the offer.
 
For the frags on Saturday. Does anyone have some small rocks to mount them to. I can bring some frags but they will be unmounted.
 
Paul, we can mount them directly to the live rock. I'll bring super glue and epoxy. Perhaps we can meet at about 1:30 since the talk will be at 2pm.
 
It went very well. I basically talked to the zoo cartetakers for about an hour about the display, the status and threats to the reefs world wide and answer questions. The caretakers have to be able to answer questions to the public and describe the naturew of the inhabitants. Of course this task is much harder regarding the reef tank since the display is more about a complex ecosystem rather than any given individual inhabitant. They seemed really into it and askied a lot of good questions.
 
I want to extend a big thanx to Jackson for contributing four pepperment shrimp to the zoo display.

Paul, we should wait a bit more until adding more sps. I recently placed another sps that quickly croaked. The alkalinity still tests a bit on the weak side. I will start using the baked recipe for the alkalinity component which is a much more concentrated formula.
 
I just added a couple of frags from my tank on Sunday. I'll check on them this weekend to see how they are doing. I placed a poly filter pad in the media bucket upon the suggestion of a couple of folks to see if possibly some inorganic contaminants from the DIY rock might be responsible. Everything else looks absolutely fine and the corals and fish look great.
 
Glad you asked. I figured we'd all take a break for a while after the 180 set up. The zoo has OK's spending up to about 2k on the sea horse tank. So whenever folks are ready, we can start on this. It will obviously be much easier to design and implement than the 180. The first thing to decide is what size tank.
