I just picked up 2 new frags from the lfs two days ago and both of the frags got an iodine dip with kents lugol solution. One frag is partly open and the other has not opened at all. I was just wondering if i should be worried or just let them be for a bit.
I would just let them be. After I dip mine some have taken longer than others. I just make sure they have some flow on them, but not to much that they would be stressed and not high light. Mine have always recovered after a few hours and one not until the next day.
How much iodine did you use and how long did you dip? Mine generally open up in about two days after a 15 min dip in a very weak (5 drops in a gallon) FW dip.
I did a 5 min dip in 5 gallons of RO fresh with 4 drops of lugols very weak ..... but my trates are at 15ppm thinkin that could be a factor..... also i turned of my 10k daylight after I added them into my tank and the next day i turned it back on, but they werent opening at all so i shut it back off...... one other thing my salinity is also at 1.028 atm Ive been slowly bringing it down from 1.031.... but the new zoos werent added when my salinity was high... I'll leave them alone though b.c some of the polyps have started to open partially.... they could be getining too much flow where they are at so if they dont open where they are soon I migh move them...... also one more thing when should I become worried about them not opening??
Yea, dont worry thejiro, I usually put a drop of iodine directly onto the polyps...If they can survive me anyone can keep zoas. Mine open up almost instantly with this method...
Just a newbie question...why use fresh water with the zoo's, why not just use tank salt water? Seems like it would shock the zoo less but I guess the FW shocks the parasites a bit more?
