pH swings got you (and your corals) feeling uneasy? Youโ€™re not alone. Understanding and maintaining stable pH is one of the trickiest parts of saltwater aquarium careโ€”but itโ€™s also one of the most important.

This article breaks down the science of pH in simple terms and explores practical ways to improve and stabilize your systemโ€™s pHโ€”without overcorrecting or chasing numbers. From gas exchange and lighting cycles to dosing strategies and equipment upgrades, weโ€™ve got you covered.

"Low pH can also increase the toxicity of ammonia"

from the article above

Vs:

3. The toxicity of ammonia is a function of pH. At pH 8.5, toxic effects kick in at ammonia levels 2.5x lower than at pH 8.1. Likewise, at pH 7.8, it takes twice as much ammonia to be toxic as at pH 8.1. In a situation where ammonia might well reach toxic levels, such as a shipping bag, raising pH in the bag should not take place

From:

*It hasn't even been edited/ corrected in two days = concerned.

Readers who try and reduce toxicity by raising pH per your article Tamara are at risk of peril. It needs to be edited to say the opposite of what's posted.

I've never seen educational material directly write and sustain incorrect chemistry before. These aren't written as opinion articles they're being conveyed matter- of- factly.

Low pH certainly does not increase the toxicity of ammonia. Can you change that, please.

A simple solution is to run a pipe outside and feed your skimmer outside air. If you wish to use aeration, use an inline pump with outside air.
Aeration with co2 dense air from inside the house will not change the co2 concentration in the tank. All aeration does is greatly increase the surface area for gas exchange. If the air inside the bubbles is the same air as over the tank you get the same gas concentrations in the water.

How many times has randy harshly corrected even the slightest mischemistry over the last three decades right?

It's not mean, it's a professor keeping knowledge pure, by force as needed

What seems harsh to us is really just a teacher who actually teaches doing teaching

In fact to this day before I write a single thing in Randy's forum I've already looked up every angle and I expect to still get corrected. I like that BTW

I only want reef knowledge that passes the whipping post. In ten years we will never see or know of that standard again, ever, in reefing. Randy is the last whip cracker out there. All accountability for writing is nearly gone.

Why this hasn't been corrected is beyond me.

I predict the article above will never be corrected and thousands of new reefers will simply learn opposite of way ammonia toxicity works in the reef tank. It's bittersweet to remember the gauntlet days here at reefcentral 2004 where both Randy, Habib and Boomer were auditing all chemistry posts and then Craig B occasionally stopping my. Lol talk about a minefield of auditors.

Writers minded their p's and q's back then, there was a social price to pay for less than 100% straight fact.
