1/3 of anemone foot swollen

So i have had my anemone for 2 months and have had no issues jntil about a week ago. I can try to get a picture but it is hard to see has the effected part is in the back and hidden behind rock.

That being said about 1/3 of the anemones tentacles are shrunk and tiny. The same part that has shrunk and tiny tentacles also has a very swollen foot like an over inflated ballon. As i said the front and sides all look normal its only the back with issues.i have no idea what this means. And i am sure most dont has any number of things can stress anemones.

I will keep an eye on it i may be optamistic but i thought it was splitting as it looked like the swollen part was splitting off. I guess only time will tell

This species of anemone, Condylactis gigantea, is an Atlantic anemone. They are not clownfish hosting anemones, no clownfish in the Atlantic, and does not know to asexually multiply.

Ahh did not know they didnt asexually reproduce either and yes i know they do not host clown fosh my daughter picked this one out at the store so i let her get it.

updated one picture from last night with all tentacles enclosed in foot. 3 more from just now. I can only assume he is dying. I have had him 2 months my water parameters have not changed I have T5 lights. any thoughts. I have a second Condy that seems fine.

Something is up. Espc since the other one is fine.

Any bad food given lately? Even if you thought it was bad?

I would take it out and put it in QT and give antibiotics. That is if you are looking to keep it.

Before this started I gave a piece of shrimp i had boiled cut up and froze. So not sure if that may be the case now that you mention it. I have done this before with no issue so i did not think about it. But i did feed him 1-2 days prior to this starting.

Cooked food of any type should not be fed. It kills all the useful nutrients that it wants. PLUS with raw food, shrimp and fish especially, it is easier to digest than a hard texture that takes teeth to bite through.

These items are bags of water that use digestive enzymes to break down the food and get the nutrients from them.

A long time ago it was explained this way:

How many fires do you see in the water where their natural habitat is. Give it to them raw.

Make sure it is good quality items that have not sat out and rotted/spoiled. They are acceptable to the same types of stomach problems we get when we eat something bad. Their mouth is also their Anus so they will not always get rid of it until it has worked on it. Sometimes this causes problems.

Hi Worm Thank you for your help. It is greatly appreciated and of great value. It all makes sense and I am ****ed now at myself.

You are learning.

That is why there are quite a few of us that take pride and the health of anemones to heart. We have no problems answering questions and giving ideas.

Please feel free to ask as many questions as you need. Each question will hopefully help someone else that is thinking the same thing but afraid to ask or just lurking and reading.

I am not as knowledgeable as OrionN and a few others.

This hobby is not overnight for setting things up, but it can crash overnight. Preplan and do things slowly. When in doubt, ask. We all learn new stuff all the time.

Keep your head up and keep moving forward.
