1" overflow??

I have a 55 gallon reef ready tank with a 1" overflow... I was wondering how many gallons per hour this would drain...

Thanks....

My oceanic has a 1", rated @ 600 gph. That's pushing it IMO, I am sure it can handle more but I only have a 20L sump and running that much through it is inviting micro bubbles....which I have tons of...ha :)

Yep know what you mean, a single non-enhanced 1" outlet will struggle to do much at all.

If you really want to push the drainage capacity then try the 'external Durso' as depicted in the right-hand diagram below. You can combine this with a surface skimming box to maintain the water level and skim the water surface (optimises skimmer performance - refer Anthony Calfo's forum).

My 150 gal reef uses 2 x 1" 'external Durso' overflows with a surface skimming box and it can push about 1800 gal/hr through it.

Bubbles can be controlled in your sump using baffles (go to Melev's site for options http://www.melevsreef.com/allmysumps.html).
