1" scwd

That Is I think the problem with their design, If a piece of debris gets in gears It messes up the whole thing until you clean It out. Or It just breaks If It's a big enough chunk of crap gets Inside It. JMO

They are 1" female pipe thread connections.

Debris can't really get to the gears since they are sealed up in the gearbox. Debris could block the rotating deflector or maybe the impeller if something really large got through the pump but that shouldn't break the gears unless it was a really large pump.

FWIW, all, I have one that has been running for over two years with 0 issues and has never been cleaned! :) Its a 3/4" model, too. It sounds as though I am very fortunate! I've never had an issue, though.

Yeah, I had one on a seahorse tank that worked for a very long time. In all fairness, the instructions state that you should filter the water before it goes into it.

It is still working this morning. Blew another of my corals off. :)

I have seen it done. I actually did on the bottom of the picture shown above of the 3/4" one. You have to grind the barb off and then thread a female adapter on it. I think it is 1/2" I don't know for sure though. I used a metal coupling to cut the threads so it wouldn't damage the PVC adapter.
