i was just looking at some of these clams as a possible addition to my 10 gal reef. nothing too serious yet just wanted some imput on whether or not my lighting of 4-15 watt NO fluorescents would be adequate. its the Tridacna Derasa. also what is the max size they grow to be?? if this clam isn't suitable, what is another species that would be?? thanks

I'm no clam expert, but I was concerned if I could put a clam in my ten gallon with a 175 watt MH.

I seriously doubt that you could keep even the lower light clams under NO lights.

anyone else have some imput, was considering upgrading lighting, but looking for suggestions, other than metal halide.

Derasas are second largest clams of tridachnids and I would not recomend placing it in a 10g tank.
Now,if you would upgrade your lighting to
MH,I would recommend a crocea as they're the smallest, but the most light demanding.
I have a derasa under VHO and mh.Probably could have survive under VHO only, but I choose to not taking chances.

what if i were to upgrade to 95 W PC, 6400, and the two actinics at 15 W each, would this be good, even for the clams that grow the smallest, was it maxima?? this would give me almost 130 W, 13 w per gallon

Shotzee,
Here is a pic of a gold max I've got today. It's about 3.5" - I think something like this should be good with the upgrade of your lighting.
