10 gal nano: Yasha Hasa and pistol shrimp?

what are the nano keepers thoughts on a Yasha Hase Shrimp Goby and pistol shrimp, specifically the Randalls Pistol shrimp?? Marinedepotlive says, "The Yasha Hase Goby pairs particularly well with the red and white striped 'Randalls' Pistol Shrimp." (http://www.marinedepotlive.com/yasha-hase-shrimp-goby---stonogobiops-yasha-fish--gobies.html)

my LFS said they can get me a small pair of these guys (or gals) for about $100 (my price...not sure what theirs is, but they gotta make a profit somewhere). is that a good price or are they trying to make an easy buck??

i need to mention that the tank has completely cycled (LFS checked last week, but i'll give it another week to be on the safe side), no inhabitants yet, fairly deep sand bed (3-4 inches) and about 5-10 pounds of live rock (mostly coral skeletons, tonga and fiji rubble). my LFS said just give them a call when i want them to order it, might take a week or two to arrive, and they will be more than happy to "watch" it in their tanks for a week to make sure both are eating.

this is the tank that sits next to my bed, so i'd love to have these guys in it and be the sole fish/shrimp inhabitants as something to wake up and look at while i drink the morning coffee and something to look at while i read in bed at night.

so let's hear everyone's comments...

oh, forgot to mention that Marine Depot Live says "20 gal minimum tank size" but Marine Center says "10 gal min. size" so which retailer is right??

you should be fine in a 10 gal they really don’t need a bunch of space I have a Stonogobiops nematodes with a Randalls Pistol shrimp and they do great in my 40gal but they rarely venture more then 5"-6" away from the borough

Definitely go with Randall's Pistol shrimp for the Yasha. I have multiple Yasha gobies in my 24 gallon aquapod, and different types of pistol shrimp (i.e., Randall's, Tiger, etc). Only the Randall's have paired with the Yasha gobies.

randalls for sure

randalls for sure

it will be a Randalls Pistol shrimp for sure. my LFS checked with their supplier to make sure for me when i first inquired there about them.

i'm just wondering if the price tag of $100 for the pair is a good deal or if i should hold off for a while or try to find a pair online...

anyone with this combination (Randalls and Yasha) have other tankmates, other than a clean up crew, in a 10 gallon (well, probably only 6 or 7 gallon water-wise due to the deeper sand bed) aquarium?

I was thinking of doing the shrimp/gobie for my 10g but I have a camel shrimp in there now and was worried he might not like the company of the other shrimp.
Any idea's about this?

I've seen such pairs offered online for about 80 dollars. When you include overnight shipping, which runs for about 30 dollars, you would save money getting the pair locally.

just as i thought...

just as i thought...

i kinda figured the price would be lower online, but once you factor in shipping (anywhere from $25 and up) i'd make out the same.

i'll def. have the LFS order them for me--it will give me the peace of mind that the pair will be the LFS responsibility until i purchase them and take them home. plus, i don't want to chance not being home when a package from an online vendor arrives carrying these two creatures...

my coworker has a tiger pistol and a YWG paired up in his 10 gal and they have plenty of room.

$100 seems kinda steep for a yasha randalls pair... my lfs has had them for $75

Question; in what sequence were the two added? At the same time or one before the other?

In my tank the tiger pistol was added first (a week before the Yasha gobies), and actually has made a rather spacious burrow. 2 Yasha gobies entered the cave/burrow and didn't take.

kimbo39, how long have you had the multiple (exactly how many?) yashas in your 24g? Just curious since I know it is virtually impossible to sex them and the same gender will tend to fight. I discovered this in my 30g after buying a supposed pair that turned out to be two of the same sex. Had to relocate one but I since introduced another one and the two have formed a pair so I guess it's just luck of the draw.

I actually currently have four small ones, all introduced simultaneously just yesterday. Maybe the key is having more than two. There are instances where they will be right next to each other, and they don't seem to notice each other. Right now though three of the four are hiding in the rock work, with the fourth having paired with a Randall's pistol shrimp in a nice little burrow near the front of my tank. Maybe they are all placid now because they're in a new environment. Hopefully it works out. By the way, I purchased four because they were on sale for $34.99 a piece.

It will be interesting to see how they get along long-term. Mine were fine for the first couple of days but then once their territories were set aggression set in.

Nice price. Picked up my original "pair" for $30 each.
