100 Gallon Cube Tank Build

Man that is going to be bright sitting down. Your not putting it upstairs? Looks good I should have the sand ready next weekend.

Knowing my house if I put it upstairs it would probably end up downstairs anyway ;)

Chad cried the entire way home from the MTRC frag swap just because it was in his car.

Kind of makes you wonder if he really did manage to find some wood to mount that hood to or if it just might "accidentally" fall onto the tank some time.:D

We had more than a little trouble finding a stud, despite having a studfinder...

Ouch.....Chad, that's gotta hurt!

Update: My marco rocks have shipped today and will be here Friday! Time to start plumbing!

Clean the Marco rocks off very well. After removing the dead biological matter from mine I soaked them in a 50/50 vinegar and water solution for a couple days. They are amazing shapes but the rock is very dirty.

The tank looks great by the way.

Thanks Jack :)

I figured I'd steal 2 of Chad's skimmers. Those two plus my deltec ought to clean it up well ;)

Trust me...clean it first before you get it in the tank. The amount of dead biological material on the rock will make your whole house smell. I used the vinegar for another reason...phosphates can become bound in rock, mostly the outer layers and the mild acid solution will remove this phosphate, or most of it. You will prefer the vinegar smell over the decaying sponge smell. This also cuts down on the curing time.

Good plan, hadn't thought of that. Now, what did you put all of that rock in and how much $$$ did you spend in vinegar?:D

I used a Tote, vinegar is cheap...get the cheapest white vinegar you can, I paid .99 a gallon and you don't have to soak it all at once. A 50/50 solution is all you need...the rock is very porous and a day soaking is all you need.

Marco rock is awesome stuff!!! (once it is clean)

Coming...I haven't taken a single pic of this tank and I set in late November. :D It is way overdue for a pic session.

Jack, where in the heck did you buy vinegar for $.99 a gallon? I bought 5 gallons at Walmart last night and paid $1.87!!!

You are in the Midwest...I am in the South. Life is cheaper and warmer here. hehehe I got mine at a local bargain grocery chain. You should have used Save A Lot or other cheapo place. Vinegar is vinegar.
