100 Gallon Cube Tank Build

A small update:

My Marco rocks are finally coming tomorrow! I've got a "curing vat" all set up, just need to add water and vinegar :) I also managed to plumb the drains today, but I'm going to wait until I get a confirmation from the boss (aka Chad) that it looks good before I go and glue it together. I'm supposed to be studying for my genetics exam that I have tomorrow, but this was so tempting!

so, I dont have to

Here's another tiny update:

My marco rock is "out for delivery" so before 11:59 tonight I should be getting two boxes of rocks ;) I bought 5 gallons of vinegar and am going to wait and see how many more gallons I need before I buy more.

Since my RO-DI unit is relatively slow I decided to start filling up my tank, at least to right below the bulkheads (plumbing will get done this weekend).

I'll be sure to post pics of the marco rock once it gets here!

It's here!

The rock was very well packed. Each piece of Tonga was individually bubble wrapped...I was amazed. I ordered 75lbs fiji and 25lbs tonga. Below is what I got, plus about half a bucket of rubble (some of which could be used as small rocks).

Several of the pieces are huge! The tonga shelf pieces are all 2-3" thick and are much larger than a dinner plate. This particular piece rivals a basketball, if not slightly bigger.

Contrary to Jack's experience the rock does not smell at all, and as you can see is a nice pretty white :) I'm still going to soak it before putting it in my tank, but I'm glad I won't have a stinky garage!

Well, I got a lot of plumbing done tonight, it's almost all done. I have to glue the return plumbing and that's it. I'm dead tired now though, so I think I'm going to call it a day.

Very nice rock!! I don't know why the vinegar is so expensive out in Columbia, I can get 1 gallon of in here in GC IL. for 0.99. Just cheap plain white vinegar although that's from Shop-N-Save.

Can wait to see pic of this tank set up.

I hope to do something like that with my aquascaping, but maybe not exactly. I have fiberglass rods and epoxy putty, so I could do something like that. I also have the shelf rock.

I took all of the rock out of the vinegar vat yesterday and scrubbed the heck out of it. After a thorough dunking in RO-DI water they were placed in the tank, which was already cloudy from salt not dissolving (it's cold in my basement). So, needless to say, I did not get my aquascaping done yesterday. I think my tank is clear enough for me to do some aquascaping, but I'd like to get it completely full and all of my equipment running. I tried to plug in my return pump this morning but my sump was not full enough and it started sucking air. I opted not to leave the RO on while I went to class because with my luck the sump would overflow ;) I think when I get home I'll put some 90's on the return bulkheads and try to raise the water level in my main tank...hopefully the total water volume will be enough to run the return pump and stuff then.

Well, the tank is full enough for the return pump to be on, so the system is officially up and running :bounce 1:

Chad and I are going to go eat dinner and then I'll start aquascaping!

Well, as you can see I'm having some issues with cloudy water(any ideas Jack? I did exactly what you told me to do). I did get my aquascaping done today though. I did it outside the tank and then moved pieces back in.

Not rinsed well enough...no biggie, it will clear up quickly. A little filter floss helps. Is there sand in there too?
