1000 Gallon Build- Here we go- Lots of Pictures

Ecoxotic makes the Cannons. They are controllable. With a tank this deep, Cannons all the way!!! I would think 8 total for your size tank.

Those are some sweet lights. I tried my best to figure out how I could use them on my tank, but at 25" deep and captured on height with a canopy I couldn't make it work. Have you seen the Cannon LED Floods? Man they are sweet. Here's a pic of one on my LFS's 300 gallon cube sps display/grow out tank that includes a ~30" giant clam in the center. Their tank could easily win TOTM if it weren't commercial. They have 1 on each of the 4 corners angled in and a set of t5's in the center. I'll have to snap a FTS next time I'm in there.

Can anyone give me the scoop on lighting. I was going to go with ecotech radions. However, I really was impressed with the Kessel cannons. Are these controllable with the apex controller like the Radions? I want to be able to adjust the lights from the web. I know you can hook up all the Radions together. What about the Kessel?

The A360WE and A160WE can both be controlled by an APEX and daisy chained together.

We have 4 A360WE (adding 2 more) controlled by our APEX.

Ramps up during the day, during the main part of the day we have random 10 minute clouds, then they ramp down.

Peter- can you do the funky colors with the kessil or just the blue and natural light only?

Can adjust the spectrum from deep blue to near white and all in between.

No red for Valentines Day or Orange for UT Football Games (Sorry had to toss it in ;))

I think you will probably need 10 lights, almost no matter what you use, if you want a reef.

Some of this depends on whether you want to light for corals or just provide coverage for your fish. If you just want coverage for the fish, you could cut back significantly.

Running 4 A360WEs on our 130x29x31" tank. Would need two more at least.

So 10-12 is a good guess.

I have 5 Hydra 52 fixtures on my 8x3x2 and I have T5 supplementation. If he wants to get light to the sand bed he'll need a lot of whatever it is.

Correction: While it's still on ecoxotics website, they discontinued the floods and now have their new 120 or 50 watt Cannon Pro available.

I would think if considering doing Kessil, should do the 360Narrow instead of the Wide angel as they would penetrate deeper (family site) on a 40 inch deep tank.

For the record I really like the Kessil I have on my nano tank, it has a beautiful "shimmer" to it that I love. As you said the Radions and Hydra's have more different color spectrum to them.....I'm going back and forth on this now as well.

I really liked the Kessil as well. Its a clean and compact design. Great lighting. No huge ballast to deal with. simple operation.

Most like I will not go with the Kessil. At this point Im leaning towards the Radions for this reason - color spectrum.

This is going to sound silly but when I have a St. Patricks day party at my house- I want a green tank. When its Valentines day- Ill have a red tank. Christmas- red and green.

Its gimicky- I know. but when you have a bunch of people around for a party- let the tank create a festive mood.

Now when I present it to my boss, errrr I mean my wife and she completely shoots this down, then I can look at the Kessils again. :)

Haha thought you didn't meant that funky of colors, but that would be cool.

I think my wife would actually want lights like that over others. :love2:

It's all about having fun. :)

Btw- Lots of activity at the house but I'm waiting for a bit more progress on the cabinets before I post more photos. My bar installation starts tomorrow.

What about a led strip around the inside of your hood for your mood lighting? Something like this?

No law against having both! A couple of Radions for party time and Kessils too.

I've heard the colors are even better if you get a disco ball and play BeeGees on the stereo! :)
