1000$ scoly on DD. wow

A case of beauty is in the eye of the beholder. If you got it, get it.

I personally wouldn't get it.
But if it's worth it you to. Be my guest.

Thanx

My choices tend to be dictated by what I can afford. I couldn't swear that I'd never pay this amount for a coral/fish if I had money to burn...

Man and I think a $60 frag is expensive...........

I think a $30 coral is expensive! :eek2:

The scoly is very beautiful, IMO. I'd love to have it. But, I wouldn't drop 1k on it, just as I won't spend extra cash on any coral just cause it's 'prettier' than the rest.

Thats nuts, I just bought a beautiful bright green and red for $175 yesterday at a local wholesaler who does some retail on weekends and I thought that was a lot to spend. 999 thats nuts. I also picked up a mated pair of flame wrasses for $150.00, and a pair of mated watanabei angels for $250.00.
He is also working on getting me a black tang under 350.00. There are still some reasonable people out there but finding them is always the challenge

Considering how much the Incrediscoly was sold on Cherry Corals, this is not too bad :-p

Actually I think it makes this look even more overpriced! That scoly was literally incredible. $1200 for that one all day before even thinking about this one for anything close to $1000.

well, Im not suprised.

the coral market now a days, specially in USA and Japan, is more about "how much money can this piece go for" rather than how much is this piece worth !

if ppl are willing to pay, then that's the price ...

market drives the price.

same piece goes for about 100 bucks here, and NICE unique scollies about 150 bucks.

They get bigger than 2inches, mine is at least 4 inches across at the moment.
To the untrained eye, it's brown. To the more scruitenous eye, that's A LOT of orange my friends. And orange generally always commands a higher premiun, especially when paired with red and green in it's color morphology.
But alas, not as rare as the price tag may suggest. Just saw two last week with the more uncommon red on orange bleeding apple morph like that one for under 400. Unless a fool and his money hits that page soon, they'll hopefully be more reasonable with there pricing...

I agree. The first thing that popped out was how much orange it has on it. Also, it probably looks a little better when under regular (not-so-blue) lighting. I think they knew it was a great coral, but didn't know how to price it. They priced it high and will lower until someone buys it. Just like the wroughtiron butterfly that I keep drooling over.

The Scoly has since been sold. Or at least it is no longer listed.

Yep, looks like it sold to someone with deep pockets. More power to them. Shows beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I would love to see updated pictures of it later on as it gets bigger. See if that orange really starts popping out instead of looking so brown.

We’re sorry but this Aussie Doughnut Coral was sold on 3/06/2012 at 2:06 PM Central.

Grabbed a picture of it before they take it down.

Not to side track this thread, but I heard that you could frag these corals by cutting them in half or thirds and that they would grow into a circle again. How long would this process (average) take and would you chance it witha high $$$ coral like this?

LA has size charts for them listed and usually the large isn't the max size they could attain.

Approximate Purchase Size: Tiny: 3/4" to 1-1/4"; Small: 1-1/4" to 2"; Medium: 2" to 3"; Large: 3" to 4"
