1000$ scoly on DD. wow

I think 400 buck Scolys are too expensive, no matter how pretty. I can think of how many DIFFERENT coral colonies I could buy TOGETHER for that price.. LOL

IF someone REALLY bought it!
Great marketing move to remove the item and let everyone believe it was worth $1000!

I have to give them the benefit of the doubt as I've seen them many times lower prices several hundred dollars after a high priced item has sat around for a while. I also believe they have a lot higher set of standards then doing something like that. Plus, that didn't sit around for that long. I would say it really caught someones eye and they thought the price was right. The odds are its either someone that is a member on this forum or someone on this forum knows the person that bought it. I would keep an eye on the LPS or reef discussion section or post asking who bought it.

Even if the price were $9.99, I still would not shell that amount out for that scoly. Sorry. To each his own though. I have to agree with Elegance Coral. There must have been a typo.

I believe that scolymia have a final growth size of about 2 inches.

Not sure if you are speaking skeleton or open with flesh, but they definitely get closer to 4 inches when open. Skeleton probablyy never gets more than 3 inches or so.

Another thing about this scoly, it may have sold for less than 1,000. They seem to take offers on some stuff that is higher priced. Granted it hadn't been there long, so this may not have happened. Either way, someone is happy with their new scoly and that's all that matters!

I think Steve is talking about the skeletal size. Obviously the tissue can expand beyond two inches and there will be exceptions. Individual S. australis corallites are less than 60mm (approx 2.36 in).

LOL! Well evidentally it wasnt that obvious if it needed to be followed up a page later with what you "think" he is talking about and then having to sight me a web page an approx. measurements of 2.36"! Which is technically over 2"! If you hung up on technicalities! :lol2: Didnt think it was that crucial, and certainly dont think it's worth pullin mine out of the water to argue ;)
