1073.04 Impeller Options

I've been curious about my return pump getting louder over the past few weeks and found the culprit. What are the normal warranty options?

If it is less than 2 years old, email me a copy of the receipt-

Tunze at sbcglobal dot net

You can just order this part on Tunze.com, part 1073.047. They are pricey as they use rare earth magnets, about $60.

It's over 2 years.

Ugh... same here for me.

The last week or two there's been an unfamiliar hum from my system. Took the pump apart... and it looks just like yours.

I wonder if this is typical wear and tear. Mine is approaching 5 years in service.

What did you wind up doing?

I just ordered an exact replacement Tunze pump. I'm not thrilled with the longevity, or the price of the replacement pump, but it is *so* quiet.

I wonder if a replacement impeller would be a wise investment... to have a backup pump on hand. I wonder if the motor is still fine.

I have been keeping aquariums for about 30 years now, 5 years from an impeller is not that bad, even the most simple and bulletproof pumps will need an impeller between 5-10 years and typically good AC pump motors last about 10 years. The impeller is part 1073.047, they cost $57.80 and can be ordered on Tunze.com.

Thanks. I'll be ordering one to have a spare pump.

You think the failure is due to friction? Expansion and contraction? Poltergeists?

Usually when I see them do this they look like in the photo above, something scored the plastic (gravel or other foreign object) that coats the magnet. This impeller uses a neodymium magnet and they corrode so once the plastic is cut, they swell up and are ruined.
