$11 water leak alarm saves the day (night)

Once again the water leak alarm went off last night. -Second time in the last 6 months The protein skimmer went into overdrive depositing 1.5 gallons of water into the overflow jar. Once that filled, on the floor it went. The alarm went off with about two cups of water on the floor. By morning it might have been quite a mess.
. . . Just some food for thought to those that don't have one. . . .
Regarding the protein skimmer, I better flush the air intake tube a bit more often . . .

They have 2 separate metal buttons on the bottom. You set the unit close to a potential leak, say, on the floor, and when water unites them, the unit screams bloody murder. When shopping, get the highest decibel alarm you can...as in 100-130 decibels. Amazon has them. Cheap, fairly, but don't put cheap ahead of loud.

where do you put the alarm?

how do they work? The sense humidity changes or they have to get wet?

They have saved my bacon a few times. I have one in my stand that is where my return pump is and one by my sump.

If you go to depot or lowes they are usually found by the hot water heaters. Don't forget to check the battery on occasion, that was wet lesson learned.

what are they called to look for Home Depot? I have a apex breakout box any of these connect to this or?

Look for the Watchdog Water Alarm. $12.00 at the Depot. I'm not familiar with the Apex but you may be able to jumper onto the contact wires of the alarm somehow.

I have one inside the stand next to the sump and one in back of the stand on the carpet. Saved my behind more than once!
