115 and tangs.

Just a quick question regaurding tangs. I'm not sure I even want to put one in my tank or not. But, in the interest of research I figured I should get a jump on things while I am thinking about it. I just ordered a 115 (48 X 18X 31) to replace my 55, so I was wondering which would tang would fit best. Blue tang, Atlantic Blue Tang, or Powder Blue Tang (seeing a pattern? I like blue ^_^). That is baiscally it.

I have a powder blue in my 90g but he is tiny 3.5"

I will more than likely have to take him out when he gets bigger but only time will tell.

Just dont go get a naso tang or any type of tang that gets 18"+ when full grown. lol

I like blue too, specifically dark blue, and I got myself a purple tang. Purple tang looks pretty blue to me. :D

If you have to pick among those you mentioned, I'd pick the blue tang.

I always thought that Naso tangs were pretty cool looking, but since I had a 55 I never looked into them. Since I was upgrading I decided to look into them a bit...Imagine my surprise when I saw 18" + lol. Same with sailfin tangs, I had no idea they got like 16 inches.

I don't have to get a tang out of the ones mentioned, they are just the most aesthetically pleasing to me. I really do like Purple tangs also, but I have heard two different things about their temperament. Some claim them to be nasty, mean, and some say they are pretty docile. Does that have anything to do where they are collected? Or is it just individual fish personality?

Thanks for the replies!

purple, yellow, kole, maybe a few other smaller ones.

As far as tangs go, your upgrade wasnt really an upgrade. Theres not really any more swimming space.

I have thought about that as well. There is a reason for that though lol. I had built a really nice stand that takes up a whole wall in my room with shelves on each side. It was made with my 55 in mind, but made wide enough to accomodate an 18 inch wide tank. In hidesite, I wish I would have used the whole 7 foot wall for aquarium, but I didn't invision myself ever needing that big of a tank. I should have known better, but I was still in high school at the time. I also considered building a whole new stand, but since I only have a year of college left here in this town, I didn't want to set up a really big aquarium and build a whole new stand. Plus I had some monetary (as always) concerns. But anyway, that is the reason for this size tank. Thanks for the imput! That is all I am really looking for right now any way (:

By the way, does anyone else have any tanks around this size? Maybe the 105, 110, or, like mine, the 115?

Rogeta, let me clear up what I said. Its not much of an upgrade, over the 55, but the extra 6 inches front to back, and the extra height does help. I wouldnt touch any of the open water tangs (arcanthurus, Naso, hepatus, etc), but I also wouldnt think twice about throwing a zebrasoma in there (other than the sailfin). THe kole, and smaller bristletooths would also work fine.

Thanks for the clarification! I thought that is what you were getting at. I really like Regal Tangs, but my one Reservation about them is that I have seen them in 75's and they do look a might bit cramped. So, if I do decide on a tang in the future, I'll probably look into the Purple.

Do the Purple Tangs come from different regions? I have seen them from the Red Sea, but I have seen some that don't say that they are from the red sea at LFS. Anyone have any thoughts?
