12 hr Clownfish Larvae

My Setup

My Setup

I finally framed and drywalled myself a fishroom. This has included some much needed shelves so my larval rearing items now have an organized place. Here are some pics of how I am set up.

Larval Tank: 5g

Rotifer and Larval Tank: 2.5g for rotifers and 5g seen above

Phyto Station: 4 2L bottles and a 3' Home Depot worklight below rotifer shelf.

Now, I know the phyto is supposed to be above the rotifers to avoid an accidental rotifer takeover in the phyto, but it would not fit in my very limited space in that configuration. With the curtain, it helps with extra protection against this and helps being able to function around the lights :) For the phyto, I am still using my initial culture of DT's fertilized by Miracle Grow plant and vegetable feed. I do have a disk that just arrived from FAF of nanno because Billsreef does make a good point that I have no idea what algae dominates my culture.

Growout Tank: 10g with Whisper C and Rio Nano Skimmer

Trying to figure out when to move them, but I am a little gun shy over when is a good time to do so. I need to pick up sponges for the filter intakes before attempting it.

Hoops how are you producing enough Rotifers for your fry in that little 2.5g? Your setup is looking good :) I wish I had a fish room..

I'm really happy to finally have the fish room, it is tiny but I feel like I'm in a lab and it's a bit of a getaway ;)

I think my rots work because I co-culture in the larvae tank. It almost has to be the reason because on this first batch of larvae I was only using a permanent plastic coffee filter from an old one cup coffee maker. Seeing what I now remove with my FAF plankton collector I was barely getting any but it worked. I also only started my culture from 20,000 cysts from AquaticEco seven days earlier so I was really sweating it. By adding phyto to the larvae I kept them off the sides AND I think had a population that was doubling every few days inside the tank itself....this was supported by the fact that the water would clear back up in about 6 hours I had to add more and more DT's each day.

Day 49, moved all the juveniles to the 10g tank pictured above with whisper filter, rio nano skimmer, and some liverock rubble. Everyone is still doing great, fed mostly flake (cyclopleeze, prime reef, and formula one).
