Today my anemone went through a seio 850. It moved for the first time in years. All of my fish were killed instantly except for the clowns of course. I have a 125 gallon sps dominated reef,I have pulled most of the dead and loaded my sump with carbon. Does anyone have any other suggestions, and will this kill my coral?
 
holy crap, i came into this thread expecting some sweet pics...instead i was shocked by the insta-nuke comment :lol:
 
All i can offer is this:

1) massive water change
2) massive amounts of carbon

If you do both of these there shouldn't be a lot of coral casualties.
 
How is your tank today?
Goodluck. Too bad about all the fishes and about your anemone. H. magnifica is alway dificult to keep happy.
 
Sorry to hear of your losses. I've lived through it myself. Your corals should be ok, mine were at any rate. Whatever it is that kills fish, only seems to kill the fish. I'm not sure if it's slime that coats their gills or nematocysts that sting their gills but for whatever reason it seems that they suffocate to death.

Today all the corals are looking good. This really hasn't affected them at all.
The pair of clowns that hosted the anemone, a pajama cardinal and a chromie survived.

Big losses were most of my fish, and the anemone itself.

why did you put an anemone in a tank that has open pumps? it was only a matter of time im afraid. poor animals.

p.s what lighting do you have?
 
The open pumps were an after thought. The anemone had not moved in 2 years. Didn't think it would be a problem.
I have 3 250 HQI's 10k Ushio. With VHO actinics over my 125 gallon tank.

Amazing tank and awesome colors on those SPS. Sorry for your losses. I've lived through a few similar incidents with my ritteri, I don't keep any fish in with it anymore.
 
Cooper- That is a TOTM quality reef! Very nice! I am sorry to hear about your fish loss. Its hard to see in the video but are your stonies still holding their color or are the bleaching/RTNing?
I am very impressed with your reef! I sincerely hope it all comes back for you. I know you regret losing your fish, but adding new fish should be fun too.
 
You have an amazing tank. All your sps look healthy to me. Great job and I love your frag display at the bottom. Did you build that yourself or did you buy it?

Thanks everyone for you support. My tank looks great today, I could probably say better than ever considering. My digital camera is a POS but it serves it's purpose I will try to get a few still shots but they always come out the wrong color. I have a very colorful tank and this video does no justice. As far as the frag rack goes it is just white egg crate or what ever you call it from home depot. I just slotted some 1/2" cpvc pipe, drilled a few holes,and zip tied it together.

Do you break them off at the base or do you just pick a piece and break it?

On average how fast do sps grow in your tank?
