120 Gallon Setup Has Begun

I can tell you that these reflectors spread a lot of light over a large area. Those cheap reflectors don't even compare. I had a hard time spending the jack as well on reflectors but they are worth it IMO. I bought these used in the selling forum for $80 each. Keep your eye out and you can find them used.

I moved my clam from my 65 gal into this tank last night.

I also cut a few frags in the old tank to put in the new.

Current picture of the fuge. I am still having a tough time getting the chaeto to grow. I changed lighting to a 65K bulb but still don't get the tight, bright green clumps that others get.

Also, anyone know what this red algae is? It is only in my fuge, none in the display.

Tons of pods in there. I love watching all of the critters in the fuge. If anyone has some mini brittle stars they could spare I would love to have them.

Well I got the cotton algae out of my sump and in turn caused a flood. http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=961689

All dried up and will have the carpet back down on Monday with the help of my neighbor.

Today I installed some VHO actinics. I just miss the flourescing colors from actinic lighting.

Not really that much of a color difference when the MH's are on but I will enjoy them when the MH's turn off.

Running two 46.5" URI superactinics on an Icecap 430 ballast.

Here are some actinic only shots.

First of my 65 gallon tank.

I love actinic lighting. I should have installed it from the beginning.

Hey marino!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I just found your thread and i see your using my bubble trap design. from what i can tell, the reason your having trouble with micro bubbles is because the openings at the bottom of the towers are to large!! they should only be big enough so that the water can excape. also the opening at the bottom of the tower should be located away from your return, it looks like from your pic that you have the openings to close to the return hole what i did was run a piece of pvc pipe from the hole that your using as the return over to the far end of the sump this way your rogue bubbles have a chance to rise to the surface.
ig all else fails... put a filter sock in the trap and i guarantee there will be no bubbles

Glad you found this. I have tried your bubble trap design and could not get rid of the bubbles. That's why I bothered you so many times about the design. I scrapped it for the time being until I have a chance to redo it. I got a larger diameter pipe to use (4" instead of 3") hoping that will help. When I first started using your design, I wasn't sure how deep I wanted the water in my sump. Now I have an idea so I can permanently design the system.

I never thought of running a pvc pipe from my return bulkhead to the opposite end of the sump. That is a great idea and I think that will make a huge difference.

Where do you get the filter socks you use that have the ring sewn into the top?

Thanks for the advice.

Do you have a Log of your 65 gallon? I would like to read up on it. They both look great by the way

Thanks for the compliment. I do not have a thread that documents my 65 gallon. It was my first saltwater tank and the trials and errors would take forever to note. Plus I didn't know about Reef Central when I started it three years ago. Had I known about this forum, I could have saved myself many heartaches.

Some general informaition on that tank:

65 AGA non reef ready- first mistake
HOB overflow with diy stockman standpipe
HOB CPR Dual Bakpak skimmer- second mistake
20 sump/refugium
2- 175 watt MH running Reeflux 10K bulbs
2- 95 watt VHO with URI super actinic bulbs
This is my 3rd light setup!
DIY canopy to match the AGA stand
Many large pieces of base rock- third mistake. This, of course is now seeded but my aquascaping is very limited due to the large pieces
Mixed reef with sps, lps and soft corals. Lots of green star polyps- fourth mistake, although it is really cool looking (especially under actinic lighting)
Percula clownfish, 4 damsels- fifth mistake, brittle starfish and cleanup crew.
2- Seio 820 powerheads

Here is a very early picture of the tank

Here it is today.

The things I learned the hard way with this tank, I applied in principle to my new tank.

hey marino! here is what i use they drop right into a 4"pvc pipe:D
http://www.marinedepot.com/md_viewItem.asp?idproduct=BL3131

i think the 4" trap will work better for ya, i run my water level in my sump right at the first lip inside

heres another pic of my sump if you look closely, at the far end of the sump you will see a floating thermometer that is where my pic up is for my return. i had the rock in there before i started using the socks.
i wish i had taken pics of the traps before i set them into the sump you would be able to see that the exit notches i made in the bottom was only about 1/4" high if that makes sense
