120 Gallon Setup Has Begun

Have you had any problems with the kent float valve in your sump? I'm putting together a similar set up with the rubbermaid and would like to do my top off the same way.

I have not had any trouble with the Kent float. I use on in my sump and in my RO collection tub. Works perfectly.

But I do have enough space in my sump to hold all of the top off water in case it were to malfunction. The salinity would be affected a little but the tank would not overflow.

Got more pics?

About 5,000! I take more pics of my tank than my family. Not much has changed. My son's 10 year old all star team made it all the way to the Cal Ripken World Series so we have been quite busy as of late. Not much time for the tank.

Unfortunately, they were eliminated and the season is now over.

A couple of my sps are just not growing. So I am trying the old "if you frag it, they will grow" trick. I fragged a few tips from these two corals to see if they will show some growth. I'll keep you posted on the results.

Marino,

Would you do anything differently? Now that you have hindsight. LOL

I am tagging along and still in my stand process.

Thanks

Michael

I am pretty happy with everything. Of course these are some changes I would make. If I could go back to the house building stage I would make lots of changes.

But with the system, not much.

Been following this from day 1 and it amazes me incredible setup, i have one question have you estimated the whole cost so far everything including stand plumbing and equipment how much you spend so far?

Are you serious? I'm not that crazy! I would hate to even know :)

I thought I would post a video update to the tank.

First, I finally got around to building more of the diy eductors from the diy forum. I have no way of measuring their effectiveness but I believe they increase the flow in the tank. The video below shows what they do in my tank.

Now a video of the tank and it inhabitants. You can see the flow by the waving polyps on the milli. I'm pretty happy with the tank's progress at this point.

I hope you enjoy the videos. Sorry for the quality but these were shot with a sony digital camera.

Since I don't plan on any changes to the tank, I probably will not have much to report. Other than growth shots and with sps, those take a while. So if there is anything you want to know or see, let me know and I'll try to answer.

Thanks for following along.

Marino, You said your growth is good. A few things come to mind;
1. how old are your bulbs
2. are all your levels good? - mainly your CA, Alk, and Mg.

The bulbs are about 4 months old.

CA stays around 400-420
Alk is a little low but I'm trying to bring it up
Haven't test Mg in a while.

I'll be the first to admit that I am horrible when it comes to testing. If everything looks ok, I don't do much testing.

I had the same issue getting my tank up and going. I was testing CA and Alk and neglecting Mg. After I had a lot of purple growth, everything kinda slowed down. So I tested the Mg, it was a little low. So I brought it back up and everything looks to be coloring more and I am noticing white tips on all my acros. Hell yeah!! :)

Go get a salifert test kit for MG and some Epsom Salt and mix up some DIY Magnesium supplement. Here is a good link that talks about mixing the 2 part additive and Mg Supplement. Look for the picture of Dow Flakes. www.reefvideos.com

If your Mg is low, it's worth checking around for Magflake (Magnesium chloride) instead of Epsom Salts (Magnesium sulfate). Many have found that the sulfur in Epsom Salts can trigger a cyano outbreak.
